Sleep No More [Immersive Theatre]The McKittrick HotelEscape roomOther After 14 years, Sleep No More closes on Jan 5, 2025. I gratefully got to visit the McKittrick multiple times over the years, and from the beginning it defined immersive experience. The Shakespeare, the Hitchcock, the Bernard Herrmann score, the witches' rave, the candy shop, the nurses' cots. Sleep No More was a 5 star stay. Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage... And then is heard no more. 🍻
The Nest [Immersive Theatre]Hatch EscapesEscape roomOther If you're looking for a puzzle-heavy experience, this isn't that. But if you're looking for a thought provoking, potentially emotional experience augmented with puzzles, this is perfect for you. I love immersive experiences (Sleep No More in NYC got me started) and this is one of the best. The level of detail in the construction is amazing, and how this plays into the storyline makes it so meaningful. I was in tears at the end, because I'm sappy and sentimental like that. I can't say more without spoiling it. If you remember the Myst game of the 00's, this gave us the same vibe: clever interaction, atmosphere, storyline, but also the clearly heartfelt construction of it. Easily my favorite escape room experience.
Life and Trust [Immersive Experience]EmursiveEscape roomOther Did we escape? Yes. With our souls intact? Unknown. I'm a huge Sleep No More fan, so I jumped at the chance to see Emursive's newest project in its previews. Not all the kinks were worked out, namely the AC not working in summer, but it still ran smoothly for us. (Don't worry, there are plenty of kinks still working in place. ;) ) It's a completely different story than SNM and with a much larger space to tell it, which means I'll have to come back to catch what I missed. Looking forward to it!
The Phantom of the Opera [Immersive Theater]MasqueradeEscape roomOther Hands down the best embodiment of what immersive entertainment can be. I love Phantom of the Opera but I suspect I will never top experiencing it like this. I also lucked out and had a one-on-one with one of the cast members, a nice callback to my Sleep No More days. This is brilliant for not just Phantom/Musical fans!
