Level99 RoomsLevel99Escape roomOther Not a traditional escape room. More like a collection of minigames that range from psychical challenges to puzzle like challenges. Overall a ton of fun. Every room hits a high quality and for the quantity available it’s insanely impressive. Their entire business model is super cool. You start by paying for time then can upgrade depending on if you want or need more time. Nothing new, but that’s seriously only the tip of the iceberg. You can customize your own account, view all their games and your overall progress to completing them, and can even earn “coins” and “puzzle pieces” towards merch and other prizes (getting to basically walk out with a “free shirt” is always nice). I definitely found myself getting frustrated with certain games. But it almost never was because a game malfunctioned (maybe once or twice did I feel as though the tech screwed me over). 99% of the error was made by me and my teammates. Which led to determination to beat games we struggled with and when we did complete them (by getting 3 stars) did our struggle feel entirely worth it. Huge payoff! The only thing I had a hard time with was with how they handled “difficulty” most of their rooms have very low full successes rates. I felt like 25% of the rooms showed full win rates of 1% or 0%. It makes overcoming those challenges have less power because almost all the rooms are hard (the highest win rate I saw was only 27%). Sure the win on those rooms felt satisfying but they could benefit from exclusivity. So when I beat a room with 1% or 0% I feel exclusive, smart, and proud of my achievement. It’s like getting sucked into a retro arcade machine and exploring its game library. Truly a one of kind experience. And something I couldn’t recommend more. If you enjoy immersive content. This is right up your alley!
Level99 RoomsLevel99 - ProvidenceEscape roomOther Was on vacation and loved the Natick location so much we carved out another full day for the providence location. Did all day passes. While I liked this location a lot I do think I like the Natick location more. The providence location has about 15-ish new games compared to their Natick location (and about 15 returning games from their other location.). Most of the new games are of a skill or communicative variety. Some of these being real winners. But others do fall flat in my opinion. Mainly due to them being just a little too hard or them not having enough time for you to complete them. I did run into some technical glitches here. Which ruined a few of our runs of certain games. I had to approach a staff member more than once to communicate with them that a certain game wasn’t working. A bummer really. That aside, I 100% recommend Level99 it’s a super cool experience. If you have the time to do both locations it’s well worth it!
Activate [Interactive Arcade]Activate - Scottsdale (Paradise Valley)Escape roomOther Hands down the best challenge room that’s in AZ right now. The tech was buttery smooth which is always a hit or miss in challenge room galleries like these. We went on a weekday during the afternoon and there weren’t many people around. As we were leaving though more and more people seemed to trickle in. And while we didn’t experience long wait times at high volumes I’d assume long lines will form. Cool concept with 13 core games with 2-5 game modes. Though with our experience of 90 minutes we only made a dent in a handful of game modes. Still plenty of content to return to. Which we probably will! Just with a larger group as I felt games didn’t scale to your team size meaning larger teams will have an easier time. (If they do adapt some of those games are way too hard then…) Other than that, the aesthetic of this challenge room was the hardest to get around. Almost completely dark except for harsh blue and red and other colored lights. Felt slightly disoriented after certain games. Nothing that stopped us from playing but definitely that got us to take a break. Finally the price set up seems too little bang for my buck. Other challenge rooms I’ve played I’ve paid significantly less for more play and this company didn’t seem to offer any options that enticed me to stay longer. 13$ more per hour is too steep when I just payed 38$ for 90 minutes. Wish they had more worthwhile purchases cause this place is a ton of fun.
