Boxaroo
Escape room
Pop up
An epic puzzle party with a generous bounty of clever content. The puzzles were highly varied and satisfyingly tactile. Like any good puzzle hunt, when you think you're done, there are still more elegant layers to peel back.

Escape Time Erlangen

IRL
Fantastically manic actor, mediocre to bad puzzles with basically zero lock mapping and nonstop use of "darkness as a puzzle" in a truly unpleasant way. It has the bones of a wonderful experience, but it's not there right now.

Quite old and run down, with a handful of decent puzzles.
Cheetos: The Other Hand
The Escape Game - Brooklyn
Escape room
Pop up
Shockingly good for a single weekend popup! The Other Hand was based around a cute concept: our dominant hands were supposedly covered in Cheetos dust, so we had to play the entire game using just our non-dominant hands (and wear oversized cheetah gloves on our dominant ones.) This was a re-skin of Gold Rush, but it really was transformed into a fully new game, and the theming was on point. I continue to be impressed by all the creativity and effort TEG puts into their brand collabs!
Chernobyl
TheStart
Escape room
IRL
We enjoyed all 3 experience at TheStart, but Chernobyl was their strongest offering by a mile. Our actor's performance was sublime, with a distinctive and highly athletic movement style. Great set design with some fun physical exploration, and we loved that the actual control room was nicely decorated as a Chernobyl control room for team photos. (Hot tip: if you find the Chernobyl post-apocalyptic aesthetic compelling, I recommend exploring Google Earth's extensive coverage of the area.)
Codebreaker’s Delight
Co-Operatives
Escape room
IRL
Arguably the most puzzle-packed of Co-Operatives mini games. I particularly enjoyed the whimsical objective of this one: to make a sandwich.

MIT Mystery Hunt

The body was very well hidden. And we were grateful that the fire department never came.
Curse of the Lost Temple
Cluetopia - Braintree
Escape room
IRL
A fun though particularly standard-fare temple game. The puzzles were all solid, apart from a messy and somewhat underclued interaction.
Danse Macabre
Efteling Theme Park Resort
Haunt
Other
Efteling's newest attraction absolutely knocks it out of the park. If we had the time, I'd have experienced this 2-3x more in a row — there's so much exquisite detail to take in. As a violinist, I have a special connection to Danse Macabre and loved how this world brought the music to life.
Die Kreatur - Hauch des Todes [The Creature - Touch of Death] [Outdoor]
Hint Caching
Escape room
IRL
Wildly overpriced for a digital-only game that is basically all text, zero puzzles, and lazy navigation. The story was actually decent - the legend of the lindworm and other related Munich historical lore, but the actual "gameplay" if you can even call it that was severely lacking.
