Scooby, Shaggy, and the gang need your mystery-solving help…or else! The town of Crystal Cove and surrounding areas are being terrorized by monsters and ghosts, and now the local Baroness Maria Richman has gone missing and it is suspected that the ghost sightings have something to do with it! Tasked with solving the crime, you arrive at the same conclusion as Mystery Incorporated. But when you get to the Spooky Castle, Mystery Inc. gets locked out, at the same time you get locked in! You soon realize that they’re able to help by communicating clues via magic portraits inside the Castle. After discovering a secret dungeon and monster lab in the castle, you come to the conclusion that the person responsible almost certainly works in the castle - but who could it be as there are several suspects??

98 escape rooms

We have played over 100 rooms and this is one of our all-time favorites. It is very innovative, very high-tech, and has a number of fun puzzles. It was rated as 7.5/10 but seemed a little easier, making it a great room for a larger group of beginners (although it is also very linear). Playing at Escapology was top-notch. It is no surprise that this room was a multi-year TERPECA (Top Escape Rooms Project Enthusiasts' Choice Award) nominee. We highly recommend this game as our favorite of the three we played at this location (Lost City / Narco).

Gameplay

Very novel with the tech that was included. We've never seen a room put together quite this way. Rooms with similar easily identifiable characters (we've played an excellent Jurassic Park-style game in Memphis, and Clue game in Birmingham) sometimes get overtaken by the theme itself, which takes away from the escape room aspect. This game integrated the Scooby-Doo theme so well that that it felt like we were in a cartoon episode, while still playing a very fun escape room. Outstanding gameplay!

Atmosphere

Impressive and immersive. You'll feel like you're in a Saturday morning cartoon episode of Scooby Doo.

Customer service

Shaun was outstanding! She greeted and welcomed us enthusiastically, and got us signed in and started early. Her outstanding attitude contributed to our playing three separate games back-to-back-to-back at this location. We did not require any clues during this game, but she was helpful answering questions at the end.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

Unique as a multi-year TERPECA nominee. Even though it was a standard whodunnit, placing it inside the Scooby-Doo theme, along with the specific tech, made it very unique.

Story

Everything flowed perfectly with the Scooby-Doo murder mystery theme.

Difficulty

Easy

It was rated on the website and/or on the brochure at the location as a 7.5/10. However, it was completely linear and multiple items were used in a similar manner. A couple of the puzzles were a little more challenging but nothing too difficult. We played with two "experienced" players (just over 100 rooms) and made it out with 8 minutes remaining. A larger, inexperienced group would have a good time and this room would be an excellent learning experience. Just don't expect every room booked in the future to be this good.

Game tech

High tech

Very high tech to bring the Scooby-Doo experience to life.

Ideal number of players

4

We played with two. Because it is linear, the more experienced the group the fewer players required.

Scary

Not scary

Minimum age

6

Young enough for anyone who can understand Scooby and Shaggy. Even though this is a murder mystery, the cartoon aspect negates any scariness.

Was anything broken?

Yes

There was one piece that we were able to manipulate without the accompanying required piece of equipment. Our game master explained at the end that a magnet in the equipment was getting weak allowing us to manipulate it without the use of another piece of equipment. This did not interrupt the flow of the game at all, but instead allowed us to jump ahead by a few seconds.

Live actors

No

Physically active

Somewhat

There was a good amount of space in which to move around.

Accessibility

There didn't seem to be any limitation on room to move, lighting, sound, or the height of puzzles.

Easy to find location

Yes

Excellent directions on the website.

Parking

Easy

Excellent directions on the website to get to the correct parking garage with a reminder to carry your ticket for up to a 2-hour validation.

Thank you so much for this incredible review — coming from a team that has played over 100 rooms, it truly means a lot to us! We’re thrilled to hear this room ranks among your all-time favorites and that you enjoyed the innovative, high-tech elements and puzzle design. Your breakdown of the difficulty and linear flow is spot-on, and we love that you see it as a great fit for larger groups of beginners as well. It’s especially meaningful to hear your mention of the TERPECA nominations — our design team puts a lot of heart into creating rooms that stand out at that level, and feedback like this makes it all worth it. We’re honored that this was your favorite of the three you played (Lost City and Narco are great company to be in!). Thank you again for the recommendation, and we hope to welcome you back for many more adventures in the future!

From the get go we were treated with respect. The facility was nice, the room was amazing. Very high tech as far as clues and game play. Very deceptive, we started off flying through it and got cocky it quickly got difficult but by the time we realized it we had lost. Would definitely recommend

This was a great game! There was a lot to do for just two people - we barely escaped, even though it felt like we were always moving and never just spinning our wheels. Would recommend 3-4 for this room.

That’s awesome — sounds like you and your teammate stayed locked in the whole time! It’s a room that keeps you moving, so finishing it just under the wire is a great accomplishment. Thanks for the tip on ideal team size — 3–4 is definitely the sweet spot for that one!

A great game for beginners. Fun theme and good flow. There were a lot of things that were over explained and had unnecessary direction. I felt like we were being told what to do rather than figuring out clues. But, still was well designed overall, so I think it's just geared towards beginners or kids.

That’s really well put — thank you for the thoughtful feedback! You’re absolutely right; this one is designed to be more guided and beginner-friendly, but it’s helpful to hear how that feels from an experienced player’s perspective. I’m glad you still enjoyed the theme and flow overall!
