The Elixir of Life is fabled to grant the drinker immortality or eternal youth though, to be honest, we're still undecided about being young forever... Even so, we're committed to finding out whether the rumours are true. A mysterious book originating from Egypt may have clued in Nicolas Flamel - a most infamous alchemist - to the recipe for the Elixir. Surely Adventurers who can prove their proficiency in the study of magic, potions and alchemical ingredients may be able to learn more. Your team will have 60 minutes inside the Realm of Magic to dabble in alchemy, create potions, and expand your knowledge about ingredients.

We did both ‘Search For The Stone Of Destiny’ and ‘Pursuit Of The Elixir Of Life’ rooms and unfortunately both were disappointing. Both these experiences (and a third which we did not do) occurs in the exact same rooms. The only difference being that depending on which experience you are doing, some puzzles a not assessable. It is essentially three seperate streams of linear puzzles within the same space. Whilst this concept was intriguing when explained to us, we felt the second experience felt too similar, repetitive and got a little boring. The few puzzles which are assessable to you are minimal. It would have been preferable to combine all three experiences into a single game. The augmented reality with a hand held phone felt like a gimmick. It was unnecessary, it did not add any magical moments or wow factor. All it did was display a message that otherwise could have been a physical page.

We tackled The Elixir of Life in Arcadium's Realm of Magic, and it was a standout! The room was crafted to draw us into a world of mystery and sorcery, and the puzzles kept us engaged without any frustrating lulls. Time flew by as we dove deeper into each clue, so we were honestly surprised to hear the five-minute and one-minute warnings; but, somehow, we made it out with just 34 seconds to spare! As experienced escape roomers, we appreciated the perfect balance between challenge and flow. Special shoutout to our incredible host, Zulpa! Her energy and commitment to the theme made her feel like part of the room itself, guiding us as an ally on the quest. Arcadium knows how to pull players into immersive gameplay with attention to detail in storytelling and design. Highly recommended!

Gameplay

The gameplay was fantastic! The puzzles were well-designed and varied, requiring both logic and creativity, which kept us on our toes. The room had a good flow, and the clues made sense without being overly easy or too cryptic. Each stage of the journey felt purposeful and satisfying as we moved closer to the elusive Elixir.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere was absolutely magical. The set design, props, and special effects made it feel like we’d stepped into another world. Every detail added to the immersion, from enchanted objects to mysterious lighting; Arcadium definitely knows how to create a complete experience with each room.

Customer service

The staff at Arcadium was great, and Zulpa deserves special mention. She went above and beyond to make our experience memorable, staying fully in character and keeping the energy up. Her enthusiasm made a big impact and added even more to the atmosphere; she should get a pay rise for how much she adds to the experience!

Was anything broken?

No

Everything was in top condition! We didn’t encounter any broken puzzles or props that would take us out of the experience. It’s clear Arcadium keeps their rooms well-maintained, and nothing broke the immersion.

228 escape rooms

A more challenging escape game than their other offerings, ‘Pursuit of the Elixir of Life’ sees you return to the Realm of Magic, the same set of rooms that also hosts ‘Quest for the Wand of Illumination’ and ‘Search for the Stone of Destiny’. It was a fun experience reentering a familiar space to play a whole new set of puzzles. The room featured a collection of fun, different props and puzzles that offer an enjoyable flow!

Gameplay

Gameplay flowed well, aside from cluing towards one or two puzzles.

It is neat to be back in the same room but have to look for different puzzles. The game masters really do add to the experience and even if you have to ask for help they come in and there isn’t a disruption to your gameplay.
