20 escape rooms
This was one of the most disappointing escape rooms I have ever been to. FIRST OF ALL, this is located inside of an “extreme park.” If you book before you get there, there is no indication that you also need to pay admission to the place itself, but you do. Its only $5 a person but arriving to do a room after having paid hundreds of dollars online and then being told you need to pay an additional $5 a person just to enter the facility is extremely frustrating and felt deceptive. The staff are clearly not trained to be game masters. If you are used to escape rooms where the people working there add anything to your game, forget about it. They don’t tell you the story, they don’t seem to have a way to see you in the room, and they only communicate over walkie talkies. They do not always respond immediately over the walkie and they accidentally gave us a clue when someone else asked for help. Upon escaping, they didn’t even congratulate us or offer to take our picture. They also didn’t tell us how fast we escaped without us explicitly requesting that information. There is no way in the room to see how much time has passed unless you ask for a time check on the walkie. The room had some cool theming aspects but it was ruined by the do not touch stickers that were placed all over everything and things that were clearly falling apart due to age and lack of repair. Finally, the puzzles. There are very few puzzles in the room. Almost everything was find something and do something that is explicitly stated. Ie: find a key and put it in the lock. Or find a code written somewhere and put it in the place it specifically shows you to put it in. There were only 2 puzzles that actually required you to solve for the answer. They both involved some basic math so warning for people who hate math. I am trying to make this as spoiler free as possible, so without saying too much one of the puzzles required using a tool that was set to the wrong setting with no indication of the proper setting. It also was extremely temperamental so you sometimes had to use the tool multiple times. After being frustrated trying the same thing multiple times and being sure we were doing the right thing, we eventually had to call the game masters for help. They didn’t respond the first 2 times we called for help, waiting multiple minutes in between and when we finally got help, that was when we realized it was set to the wrong setting. Overall, a disappointing experience and I would not recommend doing it. It was frusterating because I did an escape room here many years ago and remembered it fondly. I don’t know if this room is just worse, if things have changed, or if I was just an inexperienced player then.
Gameplay
Nothing original. Very few puzzles. Mostly find something and unlock something else.
Atmosphere
Some elements of the theming were cool, but it was ruined by the fact that you couldn’t touch more than half of the decor items in the room. They had do not touch stickers all over everything and told us we’d be liable if we touch anything and it broke.
Customer service
Staff wasn’t rude, but they clearly aren’t trained to be your typical game masters. They are probably not always stationed in the rooms. They weren’t responsive on the walkie, they accidentally radioed us instead of somebody else, and they did nothing to add to the atmosphere or experience. They didn’t even congratulate us when we got out, tell us our time, or offer to take a picture of our group.
