Dr. Zylchov was once a world-famous scientist, known for working on top secret projects in the 1970s. Today, his old laboratories have been cleared of radiation and torn down, and it’s been years since anyone has seen the doctor. However, recently there have been reports in East Portland of an odd man in a lab coat walking his cats, and strange smells and lights coming from a nearby building. Could it be Dr. Z? The only things known for sure are that Dr. Z has a history of risky experiments, never moved on from the 70s, and loves his cats dearly. Your mission is to enter Dr. Z’s far-out apartment and find the truth! This room is entirely new and different from our previous room, Dr. Zylchov’s laboratory.

This looked so promising. Weird story, great props, lots to tackle when you in there, but there was zero flow to gameplay. And several red herrings were included that just made this room a disappoint.

I really wanted to like this room, but there were too many “logic leaps.” We had to ask for over a dozen clues because it was really hard to connect the dots. A lot of props and things that had nothing to do with puzzles and were distracting. It’s so close to being great because it’s a good story, but the puzzle flow needs to be improved.

I really wish I could rate this one positively because it has some GREAT theming and some really cool puzzles, but a couple issues make it hard to recommend: - Many things are damp to the touch. Paper clues were especially gross. Not super sure why, but we think maybe they drench everything in disinfectant between groups. - There were a lot of elements of the room that looked liked puzzles but weren't. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but in a really non-linear and complicated room it can get confusing, especially when... - One key component simply didn't work. The GM had us reset all the switches, check the power, etc, but eventually had to just give us the information it was supposed to display.
