After a long time away, you are eager to come home to your loving family. Instead of your wife and daughter, you return to an empty house and a letter on the table. To get to the bottom of their disappearance you will have to use everything at your disposal, pushing your problem solving abilities to the limit. Leave no stone unturned, and most importantly, trust no one.

50 escape rooms

The Return is a very basic and sparse mechanical room. The GM at the beginning seemed to tout the sparseness of the room as a positive, that "everything will be used... everything". If you enjoy being immersed into the theming of the room, finding puzzles hidden among the objects, and the satisfaction that you noticed something others may not; this is not the room for you. Puzzles become process of elimination until you make the connection they want you to. The experience is incredibly front-loaded, but not in the sense of quantity or "difficulty" of puzzles, instead the start of the experience is marred by lack of quality information and the time it takes to parse that is what takes the majority of the hour you will have. The next section of the game goes entirely too quickly and ends abruptly. I was left surprised that the room had ended and we escaped, which is never a good sign. Honestly, the main positive here is that there is no ticket minimum, so only having to pay $60 for a private two-person experience is great. Overall, if you like other NERD Escape Rooms you'll probably like this one too, but each one I've done at these locations is just subpar.

Gameplay

Some fun and slightly unique puzzles. Relied heavily on magnets, which is a bummer. Once you get the idea everything jumps out at you.

Atmosphere

Very bland room. Downfall of "everything" being part of the game. Didn't feel like I was naturally solving puzzles just eliminating objects that had been used already.

Two notes give the entire "story" and that was not nearly enough. Room ended abruptly.

Most difficult part of the room was the first 20-30 minutes, everything after that was quite simple.

After doing several games by Nerd Escape, my wife finally felt like she "got it". Nerd Escape's rooms are not easy. They have a minimalist game design so things do not jump out at you. EVERYTHING is used. And for her, this was the room where things clicked. Therefore, the flow felt better. Things seemed more intuitive. Maybe our enjoyment of this room came from because we started clicking and had less frustration. Either way, recommend this one and City without Sun. If you have time, stay for Dracula and Chernobyl.

Too many people for the room size! There wasn’t enough for everyone to do. Fun idea but not as immersive as other rooms.

This business never lets me down. I absolutely loved this room. Was able to do this solo and man it had some unique puzzles. On one in particular, I needed a clue and once I figured it out, I could not believe it. Please go out of your way to experience this room.

We had a good time in this room. For two enthusiasts, the puzzles were on the easy side. We had over 15 minutes left, but that's not to say it wasn't fun. It was. EVERYTHING is used in this game. Nothing is just decoration. While that is a neat idea (nobody likes red herrings), it also makes the rooms feel a bit bare since the decor is at a minimum. But that would not keep me from recommending this game, especially for newer players. It has some very fun puzzles and a cute ending. Our game master was terrific, as well.

Fantastic! Friendly, courteous staff. Wonderfully designed room, with excellent clues and atmosphere. I like rooms where EVERYTHING in it is needed to escape. (No “red herrings”.) Will be back to do the remaining rooms! 👍
