In a parallel universe, Vikings conquered the world and every civilization converted to the cult of Thor, Freya and Odin, but some are specifically devoted to Loki, the god of mischief. One day, Loki’s mischief got out of hand and the other gods had to lock him up. Legends are told that only Thor’s hammer could be strong enough to break his bounds and free him. Knowing that Fenrir and Jörmungand, (the wolf-god and the serpent-god) are planning to free Loki, Thor hid his hammer in a remote village. Despite Thor’s efforts, Fenrir and Jörmungand know the location of the hammer and they are on their way to the village. They have even figured out how to perform a ritual that will allow them to lift the hammer and free Loki. You have 60 minutes before Fenrir and Jörmungand arrive. You need to find the hammer and complete the ritual that will allow you to lift it. You will then have to choose the fate of humanity; will you give the hammer back to Thor so that he can assure peace in the universe, or will you hand it over to Fenrir and Jörmungand to free Loki?

This was the second time we’d done this room. The first time was in 2018 at Codex Laval. The venue is now closed due to COVID. We had free passes to Sos Aventure and had already done all the other rooms, so why not revisit a room we’d enjoyed eight years ago? It was just as fun as ever, and since we’d forgotten most of the puzzles, we had to think hard and figure some of them out all over again. The room and the puzzles are exactly the same. The puzzles aren’t very difficult, but they’re fun. We’re now looking forward to trying out some new rooms.

It was fine. The set was well decorated and produced, just not the most grand or ambitious compared to their other rooms we did. The puzzles all made sense and flowed well. The story, especially the ending, could be improved as the ending was fairly lackluster (you are presented with a choice to make but nothing happened aside from the host coming in and saying we were done). I really liked the difficulty of the puzzles though, this room seemed to be harder than the others. Totally fine/good room, just their others are more interesting and engaging throughout.

Even though the theme didn’t really grab us, we had a lot of fun—there were some great puzzles we hadn’t seen before, and the visuals were top-notch! We also really appreciated the nice improvements to the hint system in SOS Adventure! All in all, a great experience 😉

Overall, I was disappointed with our experience. The game was acquired by another company, and the original version was much more interesting. The story has been shortened and is less coherent.

Story

This game was purchased from a place that went out of business; the original version was more interesting. The puzzles were altered in the SOS Adventures version, which unfortunately made them less fun!

Pro: Beautiful room, some skills required which is fun Cons: - Couple of bugs - False indication from game master. Overall: Disappointed, with over 30 escape done which we escaped almost everytime, this one rank close to bottom of my list

This room does not know how to stop, it just continues to provide great action and atmosphere. You can feel yourself in a Viking settlement. Makes great use of some physical skill challenges but the rest is fully on logical puzzles. Few rooms offer a choice at the end and I love that they did that here.

Gameplay

Great, there were a few parts where it seemed like we had to make a assumption of what the next step was but everything else was logical.

Atmosphere

From the grass, to the fog and the sounds this room does does not stop giving off the Viking vibes. By far one of my most favorite rooms.

Customer service

Fantastic, Staff wants you to succeed and have a fun time.

Having played and led groups in the original game, I was unfortunately disappointed by SOS Aventures’ adaptation. It’s not a bad game in itself! I think people can enjoy it! However, some of the puzzles had to be modified, which made solving them a little less fun. The ending, in particular, was rushed—it had absolutely nothing to do with the original experience.
