Jumanji

Probably the theme I was the most excited for but unfortunately left a bit let down. A jungle adventure turned misadventure due to baffling multi-linearity, a mediocre set design and guesswork city. I don’t know. The board game table was cool and its progression and checkpoint system were exciting when it worked but the tech was finicky at best and I was seldom awed by a puzzle. There’s a lot of room for this experience to be a lot better and I think that’s what harms it the most. Might be more fun after smashing some stuff.

A pretty run of the mill Indestroom set up but applied very averagely. Escape Smash Play haven’t really done much to bridge the gaps when in comes to set design and puzzle flow of Jungle/Jumanji, it’s just a real copy-paste job in every sense. Having played “The Forbidden Jungle” version of this same room up in Gold Coast, the difference in execution is night and day. While the puzzles aren’t inherently challenging there’s still plenty to do to pad out a decent 40-50 minute game, with themes that are suitable to kids and families alike. Far from great, but could be a lot better.

A great room, however we got stuck on the first puzzle for a long time which was a bummer! The rest was all linked super well! Even if it took me the whole to realise it’s Jumanji like the movie/board game lol
