‘Carnevil’ is a fun, creepy game that doesn’t lean too heavily into horror. The carnival-styled puzzles were enjoyable and on the easier side, with a few more challenging puzzles interspersed throughout. It is always a delight to see real carnival props used in games, even if it’s a blood-soaked experience at that. Red Lock have done well to deliver a diverse collection of puzzles that still (in part) connect with the carnival premise. While their version of Indestroom’s ‘Vampire Crypt’ is enjoyable, ‘Carnevil’ is my favourite Red Lock design to date.
Gameplay
The game flowed well, most puzzles were well clued. The puzzles fit within the carnival theme with a twist in the second room. It is clear that the designers have iterated on their puzzles and cluing.
Atmosphere
The aesthetics were good — real carnival props are always a delight to see in any room.
