Motel Betty

Motel Betty is a real-deal horror experience, we had a blast! The game features cinematic moments, a sprawling set, and a live actor, all of which come together perfectly. The 4 player minimum is justified, since there’s at least one puzzle that requires 4 people. There are a couple of instances where the group will be separated, which adds an additional layer of tension. The actor did a great job, she really got us a couple of times! Speaking of puzzles, they’re mainly easy-to-moderate in difficulty, which is good because you’ll be looking over your shoulder a lot…you never know when “she” will appear. One puzzle in particular involving a knife is a little contrived, and doesn’t really make any sense in the context of the experience. Also, two of the puzzles require precise color recognition, which is nigh impossible in the low lighting. Luckily one of our teammates had a flashlight, otherwise we wouldn’t have figured them out. Bring a phone/flashlight. Huge 👎🏻 for not allowing us to take our post-game photo in the room itself, instead we got this lame backdrop.

Rating: 4.5/5 - Fun, scary game with some cool moments Pros: ➕The actor did a great job scaring us, good timing and body movements. They used the set well. ➕Love longer games. Between the large set, creepy moments, and challenging puzzles, the length was justified. ➕A mechanical object in the set was a surprise and something I've never seen before, it was fun! ➕Moments forcing the team to separate and work together by communicating. ➕Decent narrative with an exciting ending. ➕Set looks good and appropriately creepy with many rooms to explore. ➕Mostly tech with some padlocks mixed in. ➕Puzzles were decent, some required teamwork or were a bit creepy. ➕Numerous scary moments. I like this style where the actor does not really scare you when you are concentrating on puzzles (though you're still scared that they might). The puzzles here are a bit challenging so I would hate to be distracted by the actor. Room for improvement: ➖The GMs watch multiple rooms at once and will check in randomly even if you aren't stuck, this is distracting. I also dislike when rooms use walkie talkies. ➖While darkness is good for scariness, it's not good when there are multiple color puzzles and you can't tell the difference between blue and green because it's so dark. They need better spotlighting or just get rid of the colors. They do not allow phones or flashlights. ➖Some of the puzzles were disconnected from the narrative with too much escape room logic. We were successful as a team of 4 (3 enthusiasts, 1 newer player) and I think that was a good number. Everyone on the team may need to crawl and run. Really fun horror game with solid theming, an excellent variety of puzzles, and a live actor, though we didn’t really find it THAT scary! The set felt really massive, with multiple areas and transitions, plus plenty of cool ideas throughout. We escaped this 2-hour game in only 75 minutes but it still felt like an epic experience!

Motel Betty was a great room with spooky theming and atmosphere. Its puzzles were decent, and had solid live actor and theatrical moments. Overall, this was a pretty good room.

Love it

I had so much fun in this experience. The perfect horror escape if that is a theme you enjoy. The puzzle designs were varied and interesting. We escaped with 20mins left but I felt like the room was really well paced. I would recommend it for sure.

I finished Motel Betty a couple hours ago and I’m still riding a high. In my opinion it nails EVERYTHING; the set, flow, effects, immersion, puzzles, AND use of a live actor. Holy moly. Can’t recommend enough if you like a scary room- definitely the best I’ve done in the GTA. I was especially impressed with how fully immersed you feel in the story. The two hours were some of the most fun I’ve had in an escape room and flew by! My group didn’t finish but the staff does let you play out the end, which I really appreciated. For my group of four this did feel like a pretty difficult room despite the 3/5 difficulty rating, so I would recommend asking for hints (or taking a hint when the staff asks if you’d like one) and not being stubborn like we were for the first half of the game! Overall, fantastic room and a new fave. Can’t wait to try out the rest of the Omventure rooms- we’re all determined to get that elite status! 😂

Peak escape room. My favourite horror one so far. The effects were incredible and felt like I was in a movie. Highly recommend.
