50 escape rooms

"We go to Trap Door for the plot" - Stephanie. Ummmm, it's gonna be a no from me dawg. This was arguably the strangest escape room experience we have ever had. And I really do not say that lightly - as we have done another room at this location which was technically weirder. So - picture this. It's after 9pm. You're in downtown idyllic Morristown, NJ. You park your car on a little side street and walk into a storefront that is very bare. It is empty inside. Finally, some guy walks in and is like "Hey are you here for the Day of the Dead room?" and we say enthusiastically "Yes!". He proceeds to ask us the usual questions, like - "Have you done an escape room before?" "Have you been to our location?" - the answer is yes. We think he is walking us into the room to give us the lowdown on what we need to know, but then he whips out "So, I'm actually going to stay in the room with you the entire time". Honestly - not sure why we didn't run... we wouldn't last long in a scary movie. We start looking around and the atmosphere is interesting. It's not bad, it's very "elaborate"? but not necessarily in a good way. This is when things really go down hill - aka when we start the room - to this day I am still not sure why he had to stand in the room with us the entire time. We start figuring out some puzzles, and then we get very stuck. Without giving away spoilers... there is a puzzle in this room that definitely screams DO NOT TOUCH - because it would be very messy and unusual to do so. So imagine our surprise, when he gives us a "hint" to use/touch this thing.... and we ask him - "Do we really need to do that?" and he goes "IDK!" .... like bro, at the point just tell us YES or NO. I could go on, about the poor condition of literally everything in the room.... or the music being very loud for no good reason... or the lighting always being off in some way in this building .... or the puzzles that are broken and never fixed .... or the not linear storylines .... or the weird guy hovering in the room ready to potentially murder us at any given point.... jk he was actually nice but just a weird situation to be in. It's like a live actor who's not acting. Anyways, I think it is needless to say that we do not recommend this experience, unless you just want a fun story out of it. The end.

Yeahhhh like @undeniablyanna says, this room is not my favorite. The two of us did it together and had maybe the oddest escape room experience of our lives. Not sure what was up with their clue system or cameras or what but the GM stayed in the room with us the entire time. The guy was a bit odd tbh, and it really took away from our experience. Like even though you always know you're being watched in an escape room, it's so different when the GM is actually in there. He wouldn't let us think through things either and would just like insert himself as if he was playing along with us. It also supremely takes away from the suspension of disbelief and immersion in the room. This room was also just overall cheap and worn down. Trap Door has some great themes that have potential to be awesome but quite frankly are just terribly executed. Like Anna said, we go there for a funny story not to experience a high quality room.

Love the Immersive Day of the Dead atmosphere of this room. Good story and some multipart, process of elimination puzzles. The dark room helped set the vibe but did make it a bit tougher to distinguish similar colors in a room where color is important to escape the room.

First room we ever did where GM sat in the room with us. Took us out of the immersion a bit.
