This city is a place of complete darkness. In this escape, you will not be able to use your phone, your smart watch, or any other light source. Your vision will be of no help to you, and you will be relying solely on your other senses. This room CAN be fully enjoyed by blind or visually impaired players! And hopefully, players without visual impairments will leave this experience with a new appreciation for people who navigate the world without the use of sight. This room is truly a unique experience, find out if you have what it takes to restore the sun and escape!

This definitely felt unique since I have not done any escape rooms that rely entirely on senses other than sight.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

First room I’ve done in complete darkness.

Story

I don’t remember what the story was, but it did not lessen enjoyment of room.

Difficulty

Hard

It was difficult for me because I am not good at deciphering symbols using touch alone. Difficult to rate this because others might not be as spatially challenged as I.

Ideal number of players

2

Potential to accidentally touch other people would make this more awkward with more people IMO.

Scary

Not scary

Disorienting being in the dark but not scary unless you have some innate fear of sensory deprivation.

One of the most unique escape rooms I’ve ever visited! It worked great with 2 people. 4 people might be okay but you’d be bumping into each other. Don’t read anything else about it, just go!

The room was fun and had a good unique concept. We have done one other dark room similar to this but with a better lead in/story. If you have a good game master this room will be fun.

Such a cool, unique room! It really expanded our perspective on solving puzzles and working together. Really enjoyed the different dynamics that came with not being able to see. Only suggestion would be to add 1-2 more puzzles in there as we felt like it needed just a little bit more.

What a cool room! I’ve never experienced anything like this. Definitely gives a new appreciation for anyone lacking the sense of sight. It’s a must try if you’re an avid escape room buff.

Can you bring the sun back? Now’s your time to be Enlightened! This escape room was such a solid, interactive room! Beware, this room is COMPLETELY pitch black as it is teaching you to rely on your other senses. What this room does well is its simplicity of puzzles but the challenge it entails due to no light and hindering your sight. The gameplay was interactive, puzzles flowed well with one another, and communication with your team is KEY! If you’re looking for a challenge, go play City with No Sun! You will not be disappointed.

Gameplay

The game play was very engaging and interactive! I truly enjoyed the different and various puzzles. With the lights on, pretty easy and simple. Without the lights on (how the game is originally played), it is a bit challenging because you truly have to rely on your other senses.

Atmosphere

After you escape, you are able to view the set design. It was pretty impressive and we enjoyed having the ability to analyze and see it with the lights on for ourselves.

Customer service

Our Game Master was attentive to our needs. There were some moments of silence though when we asked for a hint, so they may have been multi-tasking or busy. I acknowledge that this was a BUSY location, so there were only a few Game Masters and Admins available on the day we visited.

Story

The basic story is that the sun is missing and you must solve puzzles to bring the sun back to the city of Raleigh.

DISCLAIMER: all the reviews on here are there for a reason, it is what enticed me to this room - all the reviews on Google are great as well. It is definitely one of the most unique rooms out there. I’m writing this because there are no negative reviews, and I do believe there is definitely a high claustrophobia component to this room. Very transparent that it’s in the dark at time, but there’s also crawling and smaller spaces. You’re not able to freely exit at any time - and instead, you have a panic button that automatically ends the game (which does stink if one player has a panic attack). Luckily our Game Masters were really great and allowed us to play their other room Dracula (which was wonderful). There are truly a good company. I just believe this review needs to be out there so that others don’t get very excited for this room and then become disappointed when the complete sensory removal hits them.
