Like all rooms at Exit Strategy, this game seemed super smooth and polished, which I really appreciate. It was also on the easy side (as are all their games), but I'm OK with not being their target difficulty and appreciate them thinking so much about a positive player experience. This was one of the best split start rooms I've ever played, and this is a big reason I rated this room highly. My nightmare for split starts is when one side is sitting around for extended periods with nothing to do, waiting for the other side to finish their backlog of puzzles or finally find the key they've been overlooking since the beginning. The Butcher's Torture Chamber did a brilliant job avoiding this -- we were constantly doing things and passing information back and forth, which is IMHO the strength and point of a split start. The set was more a Halloween level of spooky/gruesome rather than really going for creepy, so it's (relatively) family friendly.
Chris was our GM, and was a great sport when we accidentally scared him while he was getting the game set up. Sorry!

I have not been disappointed with any rooms here. Everything flows well. Everything makes sense. Tim has been our game master a few times and he’s THE BEST! Such a great personality. Really gets into character! He makes the room that much better! Thanks for the great room!

Me and my family including my children aged 11 & 14 ( collectively over 1000 games) immensely enjoyed this room. Our game master was extremely welcoming and super nice to us before the game, during the game and even after the escaped. We managed to escape the butcher using only 1 hint and even had 10:55 left on the clock. I understand that in most scary rooms the puzzles are usually on the easier side but this is not the case in the Butcher’s Torture Chamber. We felt like the complexity of the puzzles were on point. I could see why some people could get frustrated in this game because you need to be able to communicate well with others. They also tell you at the start of the game that you will NEVER need to touch any certain items in the rooms. Again if you are a horrible listener, unable to follow directions and not the best communicator then this might not be the game for you. I would suggest playing another room at this location as all the games were so much fun. It was a very linear experience in my expert opinion and everything seemed to flow very well for us. Even my adolescent children were able to help throughout the entire game play.

My and my group ( collectively over 300 games) did not enjoy this room. The game masters were nice before the game, but we got very frustrated and nearly left during the game with the “hints” they were giving us. They were not hints but telling us to do the puzzles we were already working on…. We are aware we need to do the puzzles, we needed a hint for the puzzle. This happened anytime we asked for help, this game being the most we’ve ever used the clue button because we weren’t being given clues. The game flow was weird and the whole vibe seemed off after being yelled at for touching something we weren’t supposed to (even tho it’s not blocked off our guarded in any way shape or form.). We did get out but all left really frustrated and unhappy with our decision to play this game.

Really well done room, puzzles were creative and the group was divided in two so communication skills were definitely a necessity!
