You are world-renowned Detective Hercule Poirot, aboard the famous Orient Express. You have just solved the murder of Mr Ratchet, the man found stabbed to death in his cabin after being proved guilty of abducting and killing a young child - Daisy Armstrong - the daughter of a WW1 hero. However, just as you are preparing to deliver your verdict, new evidence reveals one of the passengers aboard the train has a much more deadly plan. One of the suspects is determined to put the entire tragedy behind them, and is involved in a chilling plot to end the lives of everyone on the train. Critical elements of the train’s brake system have been secretly removed and the Orient Express is gently gathering speed as it descends the most treacherous part of the mountainous route. On its current projection, the train will derail at great speed on the sharp curve atop the towering Simplon Viaduct in precisely 60 minutes. From your earlier enquiries, you’re able to narrow down six suspects, and they are Hector MacQueen, Princess Natalia Dragomiroff, Linda Arden, Pierre Michel, Edward Masterman & Greta Ohlsson Your objective is simple - find the potential killer and repair the brake lines to stop the train. Failure means certain death for all, while success means solving the most famous crime in history, and saving everyone aboard. Solve the riddles and puzzles, gather the evidence and catch the murderer before it’s too late! Do you have what it takes to save all the lives on-board? Time is of the essence!

We chose to read the Agatha Christine novel that this room is based on before doing it and I think that was a great choice. I appreciated the details more knowing the original story. That is not necessary, just some added fun. As for the room, it was quite challenging with only 2 people, which I loved. I would recommend it for experienced escape room enthusiasts who want a difficult room. I must admit that I, perhaps unfairly, expected this room to not be very good, given that it is located in a mall, but was pleasantly surprised that it was great! They had several good rooms at this location too, so don’t be put off by it being inside a mall.
Fun and challenging!

2 for a real challenge. Or add more people for the less experience your group has.

There was some quick scurrying around between different areas when there was a time crunch.
The space is a little cramped and there is some back-and-forth movement needed between different areas, so could be difficult for someone with mobility issues.
No
Located inside the mall on the second/top floor, right across from the Regal Cinemas movie theater.
Limited
Depends when you come, but look for parking in front of the mall entrance by the Regal Cinemas movie theater.

This room was challenging—in a good way. All the puzzles were well-themed and fair, and there was enough to do to keep us busy thinking. We were a team of 3 enthusiasts, and we got out with only 5 mins to spare. That’s rare, but we love it because it means we got our money’s worth and we had a lot of fun! Those who’ve read Agatha Christie’s novel will enjoy all the references, but the room also works well as just a general train murder mystery theme.

I really liked this room! I rarely give heart ratings, but I think this one deserves a heart. This was my 38th escape room (33W - 5L) and I played with four other players with similar stats ranging in age from 13 to 58. We received no hints and had 19:11 remaining - yay!. Don't let that time fool you though, it is a hard room (the staff said it is their most difficult) and we struggled with a couple of puzzles. But sometimes a different set of eyes / brain was enough to nudge a solution out. The room was beautifully decorated (as all Escapology Carlsbad rooms are), all of the puzzles were in perfect condition, and very in theme. The staff at Escapology is amazing! We felt welcomed when we entered, the GM respected our request for no hints, and they had a sense of humor. This was our seventh room at the Carlsbad location and we are eager to try some of the rooms at other Escapology locations.
The train theme was fun, all of the puzzles and set design were very in theme and the story flowed very well.
The set design was beautiful and very in theme. Everything was in great condition and immersive.
The staff at Escapology are amazing. We played seven rooms with them this week and each time we felt welcomed, they respected our request for no hints, and they had a fun sense of humor.
Yes
I like the train and Agatha Christie theme. As mentioned earlier, the set design was beautiful.
The plot was integrated throughout the room (tbh, I rarely listen to room stories, but the rest of my group does).
Hard
The puzzles were numerous and difficult, but not impossibly difficult. And everything was (eventually) intuitive. This was my 38th room (33W - 5L) and I played with four teammates with similar stats ranging in age from 13-58.
High tech
The room was a nice mix of tech and mechanical, but perhaps a tad more tech.
5
We played as a group of five and it was perfect for us.
Not scary
We don't play scary rooms.
10
I set the age recommendation a little higher than I usually do, only because there are other rooms at Escapology (scooby, lost city, pirates, batman) with themes that might appeal more to younger players. But kids can play this room, there is nothing scary or adult themed (other than solving a murder).
No
The puzzles were in great condition.
No
No live actors, thank goodness.
Somewhat
There was lots of walking around and a small amount of lifting, but nothing strenuous.
I think the room is large enough to accommodate a wheelchair, but vision and hearing are required.
Yes
It is in a mall.
Easy
Mall parking is easy. There are also several restaurants in the mall if you need a snack between escape rooms.

Great experience for a typical chain-run escape room company. Puzzles were very linear and fit into the theme well. Would recommend for a group of 4-5 as space may get cramped with more. Staff was lovely and welcoming/easy to work with. Pretty standard train murder mystery theme.
Pretty linear but all the puzzles made sense and were creative. Math can be challenging.
Props were well designed and fit into the theme, but not necessarily in a way that would make sense in a real-world scenario (if one was looking for that kind of atmosphere).
We did a walk in in the morning and were 15 minutes behind an available time slot and the staff was very accommodating. Anna and Taylor were super friendly :)
No
Puzzles were not mind blowing but required a lot of logic and piecing together. Would recommend if capable of organizing a lot of information at once.
Suspect deserved what was coming for them and the story was well integrated into the puzzles.

Needed to go back and forth between rooms.
1. Mobility might be difficult (rooms are small and require going in between) 2. Color required for one puzzle.

Be able to look at a map of a mall.
Easy
Might need to plan around busy days as it is in a mall.

Definitely a little more difficult but the overall experience was really good. We’re definitely planning on trying some of their other rooms.
I think the gameplay flowed fairly well. We had a missing prop that we got hung up on, but they gave us extra time to make up for it.
They definitely put effort and money into decorating the room.
Eric was awesome. We had a mixup with booking our room and he took care of it right away and was friendly.
Hard
Maybe our group was out of shape, but some of those puzzles were harder than we realized once we solved them.
