"DEFEAT COSMIC EVIL" Hidden from the eyes of the modern world, the Order of the Arcane Guardians has protected humanity against unspeakable horrors for centuries. These guardians, spread across the world and devoted to preserving the delicate balance between our world and the cosmic abyss, rely on ancient knowledge and mystical artifacts to keep the darkness at bay. After years of stability, the shadows of malevolence have grown stronger, and the Order now faces an unprecedented challenge. With the relic that secures the Gate of Eldoria weakening, cosmic horrors begin to seep into the inner sanctum, bending reality and threatening to unleash monsters onto an unsuspecting world. As the creeping horrors erode your sanity, you must venture into the heart of the inner sanctum to reseal the portal. Can you hold the darkness at bay or will you be overtaken by monsters from the abyss?

7 escape rooms

This is easily one of the most cinematic and creative set designs I have ever seen. The story is invigorating, and the shifting set a brilliant idea. However, I felt many of the puzzles after the first few (which were excellent) were clunky, unintuitive, and used the least interesting parts of the environment.

This room is an example of the experience of the room overpowering game play. It is very innovative and different from anything we've done so far, but it seems like someone overthought it just a little too much and the concept got in the way of the game. The puzzles were mostly pretty good, but there were a number of times where we were admiring the effects and not sure what to do next. The GM intervened a good amount. We (think we) solved one puzzle correctly because the game progressed, but the GM didn't convince us that they didn't just hit a "next" button on their console just to keep us moving along. There is no doubt why this is award-nominated, but it just didn't work completely for us as an escape room.

Gameplay

Definitely novel. This game is an incredible and unique experience. However, we found ourselves unsure as to how to proceed at a few points. We were watching what was going on around us and it wasn't obvious if we were on track or not. The flow was very intermittent, but it was unlike anything we've seen.

Atmosphere

The set design was 10/10 in its innovation. The first of its kind for us. Everything was impressive to the point that at times it got in the way of the game play. Award-winning for sure.

Customer service

The staff was welcoming and our GM was very encouraging throughout the game. She tried to convince us that we'd played well and had fun but we were still trying to figure out what had just happened over the last hour when we escaped. She might have done a little clock manipulation to assist us but we can neither confirm nor deny. She was crucial to keeping us moving along during this experience.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

The set design is outstanding, and different from anything we've seen.

Story

Overall, the plot is good, but we had a tough time following what we were supposed to be doing next. We think we understood what we accomplished, but much of the set overshadowed the gameplay.

Difficulty

Hard

This was easily one of the harder (bordering on Expert?) Memphis Escape Rooms we've done. It was difficult to know, at times, what we were even supposed to do. There was a specific puzzle, mid-way through, that we developed a method to solve and just went with it. We think we got it right since we progressed but our GM couldn't explain the methodology. There was another puzzle that required a good amount of time to gather data for based on the way the room is laid out. We figured it out eventually when we had nothing else to work with, but the rules of the plot and flow were difficult to completely understand. There aren't too many puzzles in the room but they each take a good amount of time.

Game tech

High tech

VERY high tech. There were a couple of times where our interaction with the tech didn't go as expected although we thought we had the right solution. We (think we) followed directions but didn't get the expected result. There might have been a little wear and tear (although I think the room is relatively new) that required a bit of finesse to actuate, especially on a puzzle toward the end. The tech is very impressive and well designed. Mind blown!

Ideal number of players

6

The space is a little tight and we played with our normal three, but we easily could have used some more brain power on some of the puzzles. It is mostly linear so we wouldn't have wanted too many more, but we could have used a little more assistance.

Scary

Scary

This one has a disclaimer (I think) and we normally try to avoid rooms with any kind of scary caveat. In the end, our imaginations were worse than our experience but there were a few things that startled us during game play.

Minimum age

14

Definitely an older crowd required both for the experience and the difficulty of the puzzles.

What an incredibly unique room! We had a blast with this one - the set design is out of this world. I am a big scaredy cat and while I was on edge the whole time, it was truly not scary at all. The end was a memorable one! Memphis Escape Room Ratings List of the 8 we played: Top-Tier, Would Recommend: The Jurassic Project Maw Maw’s Secret Shipwreck Cove Monsters of the Abyss Fun & Memorable, Would Recommend if you had time: Yuletide Toy Heist East End Express (Bad Guy) One Night in the 90s Would Not Recommend: Lost Pyramid

This room was super fun with some great effects but the main mechanism got a "bit" tiring especially with some lengthy puzzles requiring a lot of usage. Regardless, worth your time as it is one of the best rooms in the area. Love good practical effects! This was a really cool concept we have not seen before. Difficult room. We required several prompts, but still a fun room. High tech and great props.

Rating: 4.5/5 - Wow, one of the most innovative sets I've ever seen, plus everything is tech Pros: βž• They do something really cool in this room, it's a unique design. I've seen feeble attempts at this affect probably 10+ times in other rooms but no other company comes close to what they achieved here. Days later, I'm still trying to figure out how they did it. βž• Set aesthetically looks great and is highly immersive βž• Fully tech based puzzles (everything worked), no padlocks. Despite the tech, they still include tactile/physical interactions βž• Great use of audio and special effects βž• Fun storyline and progression, I like how the puzzles/tasks relate to the story. βž• Climactic ending βž• Some nice surprises and amusing moments βž• GM is friendly and helpful Minor cons: βž–The flow can be a bit choppy due to some waiting that's required βž–Some of the puzzles weren't that fun, felt a bit tedious Room is a bit creepy at times with some minor startling moments (no major jump scares) but I wouldn't consider it scary. I recommend 2-4 players the game is very linear, you can solo this (like I did) but the GM may need to bypass some puzzles that require more than 1 person. My ranking of Memphis Escape rooms I've played starting with my favorite: 1. Jurassic Project 2. Monsters from the Abyss 3. Shipwreck Cove 4. One Night in the 90s

In effort not to spoil it- absolutely beautiful room! Incredibly cool, the storyline flowed well with the puzzles, and there were just many times where u couldn’t focus from fangirling over how cool the room was. I think Gamers in particular would looooove this room- it’s the one I used to get my partner into doing rooms with me lol. I think this room is a great example for why MER stands out from others here.

An interesting and cool concept with some nice puzzles but I can't give it a better score due to the amount of people the room lets in and also because one of the puzzles is no good, no one in the group would have gotten it.
