MAUI’s Treasure

It took me far too long to realise that Entermission had actually designed an IRL escape room; nestled away amongst its virtual counterparts, so naturally I had to go and see what our cousins in the VR division had cooked up. The end result was a tropical and colourful room full of character! LFG. Maui and his little treasure trove really did exceed the expectations I had going into this one, the set was bright and welcoming with each puzzle and prop super charming to interact with. Tiki heads, cocktails, surfboards, fruits, leis, everything you’d hope for in an island adventure that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The real standout for me was the second act, moving players from the bar to the boat which was decked (ha) out in really impressive tech and hydraulics. A clever, immersive idea that was implemented well and never over stayed its welcome, I just wish my first mate and I had our sea legs… Some minor tech hiccups here and there when it came to mag lock release but it didn’t deter overall from the experience. To surmise, Maui’s Treasure is a fun, straightforward affair which will keep you smiling from start to finish. Land Ho!

Despite a few technical difficulties with the electronics, this was a fun escape room. I am partial to a tropical island theme.

Full disclosure I went in to Maui’s Treasure with pretty low expectations but if I’m being honest, I had a genuinely great time. The puzzles, whilst straightforward, were on theme and kept us enthralled for our whole treasure adventure. The set design was so fun and goofy. The tiki nature lends itself to a bright, silly energy and Entermission are nailing it here. The ship hydraulics were also a nice touch (even with the moderate motion sickness gained). A couple of small tech issues with locks not popping properly even with the correct solution. Not a big deal for us but would probably cause strife for the average player. The shining light of our adventure however was our Game Master David. From the moment we entered the venue he was bubbly and enthusiastic, a guy truly excited to do his job. Mad props to him. Bring your sea-legs and get that treasure!
