It’s been years since you’ve last seen your grandpa, so you’ve planned a surprise visit to go see him. When arriving at his home, you find it vacant, covered in layers of dust. The bed is made, but appears to have not been slept in for ages, and all the food in the fridge has long expired. Where has your grandpa gone? You find a small notebook on his desk. It’s your grandpa’s journal! It contains notes about a holy guru known to his followers as “The Mole of The Mountain”, who promises to teach those who seek him the path to enlightenment. Intrigued, you set off to follow in your grandpa’s footsteps. The notes in his journal lead you to an abandoned scrapheap. You discover a giant mountain of trash within. There is a cave-like entrance into the trash heap. This must be where your grandfather went! You bravely venture forth into the cavernous mouth of this mountain of trash. What secrets await you inside?

Mole of the Mountain was a game I played in beta that immediately stood out to me as a masterpiece. This is a game made with a lot of passion, care, detail, and an excellent sense of humor. The puzzles generally require unique teamwork, making use of the environment in the ways the best escape rooms always do. More so than anything, Mole of the Mountain tells a unique story with a very deft hand. The plot commits to the bit, and goes in some very unexpected directions. The owners are incredible designers and seeing their trajectory (and knowing them for so long) has been absolutely incredible. Plus, if you’ve played with them long enough, you can notice a few interesting Easter eggs (be sure to ask for a quick tour after!)
Tactile, collaborative tasks both well themed and novel
Manages to be busy while remaining clear what is a puzzle and what is not.
The owners are awesome people.
Thank you Shawn! We really appreciate you beta testing the game and giving great feedback. I've also always admired your way with words, you are a great review writer!

I love so many escape rooms but very rarely have I considered any of them as must do. That is until I went to Upside Down Escape Games in Cape Cod, MA. You must play The Mole of the Mountain!!!My God! The thought and painstaking detail that went into creating the room is mind boggling! I can't go into super detail because this is something that has to be experienced for yourself. The set is probably the best I have seen in the longest time. If you have a brief second take a moment and look around for all of the wonderful Easter Eggs. The puzzles were so much fun and complex. A lovely mix of brain teasers and physical challenges. We had a group of four and it felt like the perfect number. The final third of the game threw such a masterful twist into the game that I am still chuckling about it a day later. Do yourself a favor and make this a must do for 2025!

This escape room by far and away exceeds any previous escape room, from the hidden details to the clear passion the team at Upside Down put into it, it’s amazing. The ending is so bizarre and very satisfying, 10/10 would recommend
This has to be one of the best escape rooms I’ve ever played

This room starts low light but is well lit once the lights are activated. The puzzles are unique and put a new "spin" on things. There are lots of surprises- every time you think you've got it, something else opens up! The ending to the story was fun & we never saw it coming! You can tell that so much work went in to the mechanics and technology behind everything in this room. As always, the customer service at Upside Down is top notch & you can tell they love what they do Side note: If you look really closely you'll find nods to their retired rooms. Kind of fun little Easter Eggs
Not scary
So happy to read this! We appreciate this well written review.
