56 escape rooms
I want to start off this review by commending the location's manager for being upstanding and giving us a full refund, as she knew that they'd been having trouble with a lot of the tech in this specific room and claimed that the company wasn't responding to their requests to get it fixed. That being said, I feel like maybe they shouldn't be running the room until it is? This was not a traditional escape room, in that 75% of the room involved skill/circus games, which can be fun in moderation, but it should be noted for those who may have less mobility - and in general, as it was pretty linear, no other solving can happen while you wait for someone to get a ball in a hole, for instance. The few more traditional puzzle elements seemed super dumbed down, so we never really felt like we got to have any "aha" moments. But that alone wouldn't have warranted a refund, just some regret. What did was the fact that it was almost exclusively a tech room, but almost nothing opened/etc when it was supposed to. Our GMs were nice, but they were clearly watching multiple rooms, as it was 5-10 mins before they'd trigger whatever didn't automatically trigger, so we didn't know why something randomly opened and spent a lot of time trying to figure out what else we could do in the meantime! They also must have skipped an intro video, as when they explained the room to us afterwards (and all the things that were supposed to happen), they referenced things we had never heard! Even they shared that the tech hadn't been working well recently, and others had been affected, too. To their credit, they connected us with the manager who refunded us! I have always been wary of this specific Breakout Games, as we've had stuff broken or not reset before, along with some nonsensical puzzles - but based on the reviews of this new room, we decided to take a chance. So I felt for others reading this, I wanted to provide my honest review, as it's a hefty price for IMO a subpar puzzling experience and a broken set (though the tech, if working, seems like it would have been neat!). Buyer beware?
