Wednesday - Akademia Dziwolągów [Wednesday - Outcasts Academy]

‘Wednesday - Outcasts Academy’ is situated a short walk from Gdansk City Centre, on the ground floor of a modern apartment block. Based on the hit Netflix show, ‘Wednesday’, players are tasked with completing a series of tasks to earn their place at the prestigious Nevermore Academy. I couldn’t find any pictures of the room interior when researching escape rooms in Gdansk, so wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. We were greeted by the GM when we arrived, who was very welcoming and passionate about the room. After a short wait for the previous game to end (we were early), we were shown to an ominous-looking door and given a brief overview of our mission. Once inside, we were told to wait until the music played, at which point the timer would begin. The decor was very in keeping with the show, featuring the iconic stained glass window, spooky portraits and a special cameo towards the end. There were three rooms in total to work through, which were each themed differently. Our only criticism about the theming is that the second room was very white, and we felt that exposed brick or wood would have worked better to make it feel less sterile. We found about 95% of the room fairly easy, albeit enjoyable. The puzzles were varied and interesting, with a couple of slightly more frustrating ones. There was a combination of physical lock types used, including a directional lock! Although the audio in the last room was in English, we struggled to understand the accent and therefore misinterpreted what they were saying; this meant it took a little longer to solve the final puzzle than we would have liked. Overall, we really enjoyed this room and feel that with some minor improvements, it could be even better. If we had played with a team of four, I suspect we would have got through it significantly more quickly, but as it was the two of us still made it out with plenty of time. If you are a fan of the show, it is definitely worth checking out!
