The Mona Lisa is missing! The Louvre in Paris that housed the world-famous art piece by Da Vinci, has offered a massive reward of $50 million. As an underworld art dealer yourself, you hear on the grapevine that the flamboyant and extremely dangerous Russian billionaire and art gallery owner, Vladimir Stepanov, is responsible for the theft. Stepanov has a reputation as a ruthless businessman… but your team decides to form a plan to infiltrate Stepanov’s private gallery where you’re sure he’s stashed away the Mona Lisa. Through your contacts in the underground art world, your group secures an invite to his gallery. You manage to sneak away from the guards and are able to hide out until the gallery closes, but now you must use your teamwork to uncover its location and make it out before Stepanov’s guards discover you.

We came, we saw, and we conquered Escapology with this room, the final room we haven’t done across all the company’s locations around us! The actual room was fun, and it had a different layout than the typical Escapology room. It lended itself less to surprises but the finale was at least exciting. The puzzles ranged from menial tasks, some of which backfired on us and required the GM to manually enter and fix it. Then there were other frustrating puzzles where it was almost impossible to interpret how the room wanted us to approach these puzzles. Too many numbers and inputs and locks and not enough clarity on how to actually read the clues. I still had fun overall, especially with the final moments and some Eureka moments throughout, but the painted experience was more middling than what a masterpiece like Mona Lisa deserves. Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa, men have named you, you’re so like the lady with the mystic smile!

4th visit to Escapology Glenview (7th Escapology room overall) and Who Stole Mona was a fun room! Not the hardest room, but one puzzle threw us off for a bit where we spun our wheels due to having 2 numbers reversed, so we had to double check things multiple times (which was frustrating) and the hint received did not help us. Overall, pretty good flow to the room and some fun reveals. The immersion was good in this room as you did feel like you were in someone’s private art gallery/office, so one of Escapology’s better rooms (Haunted House and Scooby are the 2 best).
