Memories of Nikola

We visited Escape Artists Christchurch while we were in town on a cruise and decided to try their room “Memories of Nikola.” From the moment you walk into the lobby, you know you’re in for a treat. The space is beautifully set up and immediately gives off the feeling that you’re about to experience a quality escape room. We were greeted by a wonderful game master who made us feel welcome right away. After a quick stop at the restrooms, we were taken to our room and what a great room it was. The experience was story-driven and flowed smoothly from start to finish. All of the puzzles felt logical within the tasks we were trying to complete, and the room stayed very true to its theme. The set design was beautifully done and really helped immerse us in the story. As an escape room enthusiast who has played over 300 rooms, it’s not often that something genuinely surprises me anymore. But this room had a moment in it that absolutely delighted me and made me squeal with excitement! It was such a fun and memorable surprise. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. The puzzles were engaging, the storyline worked well, and the room was thoughtfully designed. Since we were only visiting Christchurch for the day on a cruise, we only had time to play one room but we’re very glad this was the one we chose. If you’re an escape room enthusiast and find yourself in Christchurch, Escape Artists is definitely a must-do.

An interesting, novel storyline. The room has a very clever and unusual twist, which we loved.

This is a very franchise/corporate style place. The room was pretty much bare of anything you didn’t need to solve the next puzzle, it was fairly linear, and the puzzles were (for the most part) nothing you haven’t seen before if you have done a few escape rooms. There is one very clever part that did save the room from being entirely below average though! Their rooms are probably very fun for kids or groups of new players but like most corporate style places, they aren’t really for escape room aficionados. I will probably not be trying their other rooms unless there are no other options.

Very good. Great theming and satisfying

This was an excellent room - very well themed, logical puzzles, many mechanical triggers rather than locks. And a really cool twist we haven’t seen before.

Room was fun! Felt extremely welcomed, clean and the staff was fun to chat with and enthusiastic. Puzzles had a fun mix of lock combos, technology and good story telling. Def see why it was rated highly

Definetly one of the best escape rooms I’ve done, love how the story is slightly different to other escape rooms I’ve done.

At the time of writing, this is our favourite escape room. The room mechanics were great, and the puzzles were varied and original. I wish we could play it again!

We really enjoyed this room, especially the little twist in the end! We were over-thinking in couple of puzzled but managed to solve everything in time. Creative and fun room!

Quite easy but fun. One can hear everything outside of the room, like people talking and sounds from other rooms, which was a bit disturbing.
