Camp Ruby Lake: The Lady of the Lake
Deadline Escape Rooms
Escape room
IRL
Deadline does a solid job with all of their rooms. They now have two rooms that can be played two different ways (Noir and Camp Ruby) and I’m still not sure how I feel about it as you get the same set for two rooms and have to ignore a lot of things in the room. Both stories are very lock and key heavy and could use a bit more signposting. I feel that Witch Doctor and Freakshow are still the two best rooms here, but these are solid rooms and worth doing. The Lady of the Lake is a bit more story driven than Blood Moon and there were a couple of times where you could split up to work on multiple puzzles at once.

Amazing for a 22 minute room. 😬 The good: the set is really well done. The props, walls and lighting used for several of the puzzles is quite good. The puzzles were innovative and fun. The staff was amazing! Props to Isaac, Michael and Mace for making our visit enjoyable. The not so good: we finished the room in under 22 minutes. It was a 45 minute room until recently and now it is scheduled as a 60 minute room, but it’s obviously neither. It’s a single room experience. If you’re staying nearby and can walk, that’s best. We were not nearby and drove and it was $25 to park in the Paris/Horseshoe garage. If you are newer players, or are with a family, this is a great room, but it is too easy and short for experienced players. We were told that they plan on adding more puzzles, but who knows when that will happen.

This room was a mixed bag. The set in the final two areas was actually alright. The sarcophagus slid, ankhs lit up, etc, but the set in the first two rooms was uninspired and the abundant use of press busted/chip board on the walls just made it feel cheap. There were a couple os puzzles that I thought were clever and one that was just plain fun, but maybe we were just off our game that night, because we really struggled to get going and also came to a standstill midway through the game. The GM was great and the way that they welcomed us to the location was fun, but it was just an average room in my opinion.

I definitely liked this room better than their mummy room. The set wasn’t bad, in fact some areas were pretty spectacular. The puzzles were okay, but nothing really new or innovative. And, unfortunately, there were a few technological issues during the game, forcing us to step out of the room for a bit. The GM was wonderful and the way that they welcome you to the location is great.
Villains Vendetta
Exodus Escape Room - Anaheim Hills, CA

This room is so much fun. It is a puzzle fest with 14+ separate branches of puzzles as you’re trying to locate and save the hero toys that the villain toys locked away over night. Many of the puzzles were simple, but there were a couple that were clever and took some thought. Enthusiast will be fine with 3 or 4 (we played it with 2, found all 14 with time to spare), but newer players may want a larger group to divide and conquer. The set was a little lacking compared to the other games we’ve played at Exodus, but we had so much fun that we didn’t care.

As usual, TEG knocked it out of the park with the set, including audio, lighting, video, and your interaction with the onboard computer. There were several amazing puzzles, and one that really stood out which could benefit from 4 players working together at once. We completed it with three, but two more hands would’ve helped. The reception person and GM were great and chatted with us for quite some time about escape rooms. My only complaint with TEG, is the fact that their games are still public, so we strolled in about 5 minutes before the start time and waited to book it until it was time and we were sure that we would have it as a private room. Come on guys at corporate, it’s time to stop this ridiculousness.

I was genuinely pleased with this room. The set was pretty impressive, especially the first space, and it has some really good puzzles. Newer players may struggle in this room as some of the puzzles are definitely on the difficult side, but I thoroughly enjoyed them and thought that a couple of them were very clever.

WOW!!!!! This room is simply amazing. I would love to just hang out in there and admire the set. It’s that good. The soundtrack and audio elements are wonderful and enhanced the experience. The puzzles were really fun and on theme and they can add or omit a bonus puzzle depending on how you’re doing on time. That puzzle was a great addition too. And the ‘working’ transportation system just pushed it over the top. This is truly a work of art and a must do room.

This is a unique, story-driven room with some great puzzles and decent set. We really had a good time. Our GM, Jamie, was great, took time to get to know our play style, clue preferences, etc., and chatted with us about favorite rooms, room elements, and other escape room stuff, which was wonderful.
