Level99 RoomsLevel99Escape roomOther Level 99 is like if Boda Borg and a classic arcade melded together into one activity. Our group of six in our mid-20s had a blast celebrating my birthday there and our 4hr time slot flew by, felt like 1.5hrs max! Wide variety of challenge types with something for everyone, and so many games (50+) available led to no lines, even during the busy time we were there. The tech for the points system was super cool too, especially the way it led to real-life rewards! One room seemed to be having a tech issue, so we notified a staff member. He looked into it immediately and fixed it, and even took the time to find us again, thank us, and let us know that he'd fixed the issue. We appreciated the quick attention to the problem and the follow-up! My only complaint (and this is likely because we went on a Saturday night) is that volume was not well-controlled, which is difficult for challenges that really require strong communication between players. Our group found ourselves struggling in certain rooms simply because we couldn't hear each other, even when shouting. I'll definitely be back! But not on a Saturday night
Boda Borg Boston QuestsBoda Borg - BostonEscape roomOther I've been to Boda Borg multiple times and it absolutely never gets old. Boda Borg is every room escapist's dream, it's like escape rooms 2.0 What I think is coolest about Boda Borg is its ability to convey a strong story without actually providing players with any verbal or written narrative beforehand. I also appreciate that Boda Borg incorporates movement-based challenges into many of their rooms, while also using a door color system to notify people of which rooms will be movement-focused (yay for accessibility!) My only complaint about Boda Borg is that they claim to be a space for people of all sizes, when I have brought larger friends with me and they've really struggled to fit in certain spots in many rooms. I'm not saying Boda Borg should change its room designs, but I would love if they could note, similarly to which rooms require movement, which rooms require fitting into small spaces.
Deep Space5 WitsEscape roomOther This was our first game at 5 Wits and we had a wonderful time! While the tasks/puzzles were easier than most escape rooms and the instructions along the way didn't leave much room to mess anything up, we had a great experience nonetheless. The tech was incredibly strong (especially the transition from the initial room - wow!) and I was super impressed with their ability to pack a strong narrative into a very short period of time. My only complaint (besides wishing the experience was longer!) was that the video that played before you entered the room was not captioned and it was so loud in the hall that we couldn't really hear what was being said. It would be great if they could add captions to their videos so everyone is informed when entering the room. We played with 4 players, and I think 3 probably would have been ideal but 4 wasn't a crowd. We'll definitely be back to 5 Wits next time we're in Buffalo!
Escape The City - Boston: The North End [Outdoor]Escapely - BostonEscape roomOther Puzzles were basic for an enthusiast, but would be good for folks new to puzzling. The story itself was pretty cheesy, but the box had a couple of aspects that were really cool. We live in the South End and enjoyed exploring the North End. However, if we were traveling to a new city, this isn't something we'd choose to spend our time doing.
