Molly's GameUntold Stories Experiences [prev. Down the Hatch]Escape roomIRLThe storytelling is so strong with this escape room. You really experience the story developing piece by piece as you progress. Beautiful set design, clever puzzles, and some really cool and unique puzzles I've never seen before. This was a really special room. The theme is a bit dark and creepy but overall not too scary.
The PerfumerQuest Room - HollywoodEscape roomIRLThe set design and ambiance are amazing in this room. The story is very unique as well. The puzzles are intricate and seamlessly blend into the story. However, many of the puzzles require technology to work and we encountered a few issues where the technology malfunctioned which caused some confusion.
ExorcistEnigma Escape RoomEscape roomIRLI think this room has the potential to be really great. They do a good job of creating a spooky atmosphere throughout and having some cool puzzle types. There's a good mix of intuitive and logical puzzles as well as some others that are a bit tricker and complex. We did this room as a team of two but I think four would be ideal given the amount of puzzles. A couple things that negatively impacted our experience: 1) the hint system: They gave us a phone and said that when we press a button in the room, an employee will call us on the phone to help us. However, 90% of the time a worker would just open the door and come in to the room. Also, there seemed to be some disorganization as multiple times someone would open the door to the room and come in to see if we had been helped already after someone had already come in a few seconds earlier to give us a hint. Having people unexpectedly opening the door and coming in to the room (especially in a scary themed room!) was really frustrating and broke the immersive feel. 2) Some aspects of the room were not placed back in order prior to our start (i.e. lock that was already unlocked when we got to it). I really liked their creativity both in the room design and puzzles types and I think if they can iron out some of these kinks in the execution of everything, then it would be an awesome room.
TrappedNo EscapeEscape roomIRLThe concept is good and there are some cool ideas for puzzles/surprises here and there, but for the most part is a very frustrating escape room because most of the clues feel very disjointed. Our first 40 minutes in the room were not very fun because we kept getting stuck on basically the same puzzle and the clues in teh room were not very intuitve. The hint system really needs a revamp too... there is no way to directly contact the game master so you are often left just on your own waving your hands for help until they then see you and type a message that appears on a screen in the room.
Loo BattleINBLACK Escape Room - Eaton CenterEscape roomIRLThis company absolutely falsifies their reviews. Unfortunately, we were one of the people tricked by their thousands of 5 star reviews. According to Google, they are the best-rated escape room company in Toronto which is an absolute joke if you actually go and experience their rooms. The Loo Battle was a low quality room where things were broken and puzzles unclear. The escape room can be played in both English/Mandarin and written clues are provided in both languages side by side throughout the room. However, the English clues had grammatical errors which made it confusing. The staff would come into the room periodically unprompted to "check if we need help" which totally broke any sense of immersion. When they did provide hints, it was often just providing a direct answer to puzzle (i.e. "the code for that is ___) instead of guiding you to get there on your own. The room is also super tiny and dirty. I honestly feel this company is scamming people with their fraudelent reviews to lure you in to play. I've done over 60 escape rooms and this is by far the worst.
