The Campground
13th Hour Escape Room - Wharton
Escape room
IRL
Ready to leave for Summer camp that you probably would not want to sleep away at? Well, welcome to Whispering State Forest! To nobody’s shock - 13th Hour hit it out of the park yet again. We’ve done so many escape rooms (including every room at 13th Hour) and genuinely were out of our minds with excitement when The Campground room was announced. Nobody - and I mean nobody - does an escape room at the level as these guys. The rooms are creative, fun, challenging, and so incredibly thoughtful and intentional to ensure you have a great time while really working your brain. The staff and team here are so fun and helpful, and the incorporation of a more “live actor” type experience in this one was so silly and different - we’re obsessed. We did this room with 3 of us, not pros by any means, but we love a good escape room and have done plenty. Be prepared to WORK - there are so many puzzles and the 90 minutes absolutely flies by. We used almost our full 90 minutes and were so excited that we escaped with a little over a minute to spare. I would keep going on and on but I don’t want to spoil anything so take this review as your sign to go experience it for yourself!
Vegas Hangover
Escapology - Holmdel
Escape room

This room was okay, but honestly a bit of a letdown for an Escapology room. The beginning portion is fun since someone gets handcuffed to a briefcase so that was different and original - but past that the room was just “eh”. The room design was not on par with other Escapology rooms, it felt bare and lackluster - also a lot of the puzzles were worn down and broken. A bit of a disappointment.

This was a fun room, super straightforward and a solid escape room. We had a good time and got out very quickly - I would say this is a perfect room for a beginner escape-room-er!
Jurassic Escape
Escape The Room - Manhattan

This room was fun but not the most memorable. Given the theme it could have been way better and crazier but it was decent overall. Some of the special effects and design elements were really cool, and I appreciated that - but unfortunately a lot of stuff was broken which took away from our overall experience.
King Arthur's Castle

This was the first room I did at this location and one of the first rooms I had ever done in general. It was fun, gameplay was good, everything was in good condition and it was definitely a solid room. Again my biggest complaint is that it shouldn’t be $60/person when you can do other rooms that are just as good or better for $40.
Saving Santa
Escapology - Garwood

This was my least favorite of the rooms we did at this location. The holiday theme was cute but the room was much shabbier compared to the others (makes sense since it’s only around for a short time). But we had a couple issues with some of the puzzles being broken, even though the staff was nice and helped get us on track. The funniest part was that at the very end when you “escape” - “Santa” pops in to say good job and Merry Christmas and I actually SCREAMED in fright because I wasn’t expecting that :)
The Jaws Experience

Well - this definitely was a sinking ship, and funny enough it wasn't Titanic themed! Genuinely this is probably the worst escape room we have ever done (and we have done some horrible and weird escape rooms). First of all, let's start by saying this is not a ROOM - this is like a little capsule that they shove you into that is a mishmash of as Stephie put it "Dollar Tree" finds. Like really they did not put a lot of effort into this. Second of all, the game play was absolutely ridiculous and dumb. There was no linear path to take, the puzzles were stupid and more than half of them BROKEN, the gamemaster was rude, and if you don't have knowledge of the Jaws franchise then you are at a huge disadvantage. I have seen some reviews on other sites that are more recent (We did this room back in the Summer of 2021) - so maybe it has improved but I doubt it really improved that much. Maybe if you have never done another escape room you could have a decent time? Honestly it was such an unpleasant experience, and put a serious damper on our evening in Martha's Vineyard. With just a little more effort they really could have made this special and fun given the concept, and instead it left us annoyed and unsatisfied. After we "escaped" they did let us each pick out a little trinket from a treasure box which was a nice touch and honestly the most well thought out part of the whole experience. But also, as Stephie said - when you're on Martha's Vineyard which is a fun and beautiful place, go spend your money literally doing anything else.

We loved this room! We actually had so much time to kill before our other room that we thought we would stop in and see if they’d let us do another room walk-in - and they had this one available! It was super fun and well designed, and like Stephie said very immersive. We ended up really enjoying ourselves. The staff here is amazing and so kind and welcoming - we’re excited to go back and do the other rooms!

We absolutely l-o-v-e-d this room and I actually think about it all the time. This is an escape room that other escape rooms should take note of!!!! First of all, this location is great and the staff is so so welcoming and kind. Second - the room was very very well designed. This is a great example of a place that isn’t a big chain and doesn’t have the budget for crazy technology, etc yet they killed it on atmosphere and puzzles - and did have some fun techy twists! The best part of this room was actually the story, and I think this is one of the only rooms I’ve done where I can really say that the story stuck with me and played a big role in the game. It was a little spooky and really well thought out. I highly recommend paying them a visit!
Sherlock Holmes: A Matter of Time
Escape Room Live - Alexandria

This room was a ton of fun! It was one of the more difficult rooms we have done, part of which can be attributed to the fact that we only had 45 min vs the usual 60min. I think if we had the extra time we definitely would have gotten out because we were like one step away from the end! The room was fun, and really well designed and definitely kept us engaged the ENTIRE time. There was no standing around just wondering what to do next, we kind of had multiple puzzles going at once which made the time go by soooo fast. Overall this is the best Sherlock themed room I’ve done, and I would recommend it to anyone who’s done escape rooms before and is looking for something a little more challenging.
