Permanently Closed - Dwight Carpenter was born the son of Ted Carpenter, a backwoods simpleton, and Wendy Loomis on a quiet morning in 1968. Wendy had the unfortunate displeasure of crossing paths with Ted while she was a counselor at the nearby summer camp. All the counselors were slaughtered and consumed by Ted, except Wendy. Ted kept her caged up in his workshop in the back of his secluded cabin. Sometime after Dwight’s birth, Wendy found a way out of the cabin and never looked back, even for Dwight. For she knew that if anyone ever found Dwight, she would become a social outcast. As the years passed, Dwight started to have more questions about his mother and her whereabouts. Ted always told his son that his mother left them to go live a life of sin in the city. Every night before they could devour their day’s hunt at the table, Ted always ranted about how their victims were divinely brought to them. Their appearance was God telling Ted it was their time to go. For the whole world was rotten, but that of Dwight and Ted. When Dwight was fifteen, he saw his father as a threat and knew he could fall prey to him any second. He loved his father dearly but was worried that his aging mind was getting the best of him. To be safe, Dwight scattered clues throughout the cabin that only he knew the solution to. This fear of his disappeared on one fateful evening in 1985 when a group of hunters accidentally shot and killed Ted, mistaking him for a deer. Fueled by grief and rage, Dwight finally saw the world as his father did. Those hunters became the first of Dwight Carpenter’s many victims. Will you join them?

The Cabin: Dwight has mommy issues. And daddy issues. And just issue issues. He’s insane. He’s a cannibal. He wants to kill you. What else do you need to know? You gotta get the hell outta here quick. We have to admit that we are not the biggest fans of the all-to-common “serial killer on the loose” or “locked in the basement of a madman’s house” theme. But the Cabin was an excellent experience and highly recommended. Pros: The solid set design of the cabin not only fit the theme perfectly but helped set the murderous cannibal ambiance. The quality of some of the props alone caused me to stop and admire the work of the set designers. Props to you, Ms. Puzzle Designer (pardon the pun). The puzzles were logical and simple, but fun to solve. There was quite a bit of searching but it didn’t feel monotonous or impossible with our group of four. We worked our way through the game methodically and managed to escape without a single hint and setting a record. So we felt very good about the overall game flow. Cons: The puzzles could be scaled a bit more in complexity. A few multi-step puzzles could add to the challenge (especially in the last room). This might make the game more fun for experienced players. This is definitely recommended for beginners. Experienced players will also love playing the Cabin. After all, when was the last time you got to beat an insane cannibalistic serial killer? What’s that? You do that at almost every other escape room you visit? Well even if you did it just last week at that other escape room, it’s still worth your time to visit The Room LA.

My group really enjoyed this experience. When we did it, the actor was pretty interactive with us and it was one of the first few escape rooms that really got me hooked to the escape room culture

Good Story. Pretty spotty production quality, at least when we went. All their props are clearly real/repurposed goods-- rough edges, rust and all. Which adds to the aesthetic but isn't very... well, safe. Especially for a room so physical, and one you do with strangers. I cut my hand open on the metal edge of a chest containing clues and spent tbe next 15 mins of the game holding my hand up to the cameras and trying to get someone to come in and give me a band aid or something. Host was super nice about it, but clearly not in a position to actually prevent it happening again. So... yeah. Cool puzzles. You can go-- just get your tetanus shot first?

This was the second room I’d ever done, so of course I loved it! Since then I’ve done another ten escape rooms and looking back at this room, I would say that it was a pretty good combo of locks and puzzles. I wish they’d up the scary level of the room and have a few more scares! I agree with another one of the reviewers that the unsolicited clues from the actor were not the best. Our group would’ve preferred to figure it out on our own or to have asked for the clues. Overall, a fun experience and would recommend others give it a try!

This room was alright in a combo locks + too much black light kind of way. The inclusion of an actor really hampered the experience. Our actor hovered which was quite distracting, and offered some unsolicited hints when my group did not want any. This room would be just as playable, and only slight less scary, without an actor.

The theme was cool, the vibe was right, the puzzles was nice, but I totally disliked that I have to share the room with strangers. Even though the people were very lovely.
