Opening January 9 - Help the Professor find his missing crystals Mr Copplestone aka “The Professor” is an inventor. His greatest invention is the world’s first time machine, built so he could travel through space and time to find interesting objects and life saving potions to sell in his curiosity shoppe. The time machine is powered by Time Echo Crystals, these crystals are rare and only a small quantity exist in the world. Without them the time machine won't work. Such a precious commodity must be stored & guarded carefully to ensure the future of time travel can continue. There's just one problem with that - Mr Copplestone! He may be a genius, but he's the most forgetful man you could ever meet. This morning when he opened his box of Time Echo Crystals he found only one left inside, where could he have put them? Mr Copplestone and his wife Margaret live on Chapel Street in the year 1873. We can't rely on Mr Copplestone finding the missing crystals alone so if you're brave enough to jump into his time machine and use the last remaining crystal we have to head to 1873 you could save the future of time travel. . However the time entry vortex is weak and can only stay open for one hour, get back inside before it closes and bring any crystals you find with you so we can keep them safe back in the future ready for our next time travelling adventure.

Amazing room as ever. We have now done all bar 1 room here and everyone of them is fantastic. Great story, great GM and plays to every level of escape room experience. Cannot recommend them enough. This is probably one of my favorites here too.

For a while now we have found that we enjoy rooms that are puzzle focused with a fun storyline and this room is an example of that at its best. Part of what makes this an amazing experience is it’s simplicity, there’s no heavy tech and most things use some kind of padlock, we were truly in our element! The signposting is excellent, we didn’t for a minute have to wonder what went where, this allowed us to focus on the puzzles which were all logical, fun and had no “logic leaps” to get to the answer. And that is without even mentioning the set/theming, it’s amazing! Chapelgate has been done to a really high standard, we were amazed when the door opened and we stepped through onto the street! The shop interiors (depending on which game you do here you can visit different shops I believe!) were all incredible and lined with so many puzzles! And of course the hosting was exceptional, all this made this a truly amazing escape room and possibly our new favourite! We can’t wait to come back when the game next rotates round!

One of my favourite rooms I remember, it’s very large, very nicely made, very professional. There’s lots of locks but you never have to guess which one you need.

FINALLY! I get to do the famous Curiosity Shop. We are a team of 5 and there is plenty to keep everyone busy. Non linear and so many puzzles to work through as you race to beat the time. The theming is exceptional and as they only have 1 escape room open at a time, we will wait in anticipation for the next one to open!

A lot of people had told us how good this room was and the ‘special’ mechanic had to be seen for itself. We agree! Really enjoyed this room and will be trying to do the other rooms in the months that they are available. The set is fantastic and the puzzles all make complete sense even if they don’t immediately seem obvious.

Gameplay was solid. Not particularly difficult but the number of puzzles was seemingly endless. We hit their “escape threshold” before the halfway mark but continued to solve prestige-building bonus puzzles for the full hour. As a completionist, I have mixed feelings about this rest and go approach which I detail in the puzzle section of my review. Game was almost entirely lock-based and could be elevated with the addition of technical elements. Theming and story arc are immersive and extend across all of their games - creating a visually stunning and unique game experience. DMs were lovely. Great day, great room. We loved it.

Gameplay

Gameplay was solid - some puzzles laddering into others but most were standalone. No single puzzle was particularly difficult but the number of puzzles was too high for our group of three experienced players moving through at a respectable pace. Escape quest gives you a minimum threshold to solve in order to count as an escape and we achieved this before the halfway mark. The rest of the puzzles were for prestige only and we had mixed feelings about this approach. Pro: you basically get to fill your hour with nonstop puzzles even after you hit the win threshold. Con: you never really get to complete the game because there are seemingly endless bonus puzzles. This ultimately minimizes your sense of reward. We escaped quickly yet left puzzles unsolved - and that left me with a compromised sense of accomplishment. Did we win? Yes. Did we finish? No. I have no idea how to feel. Also worth noting, the game was lacking in technical puzzles and was almost entirely lock-based. I’d love to see them integrate a bit more imagination into their unlocks. At the end of the day it was a great time, we left impressed, and would definitely recommend.

Atmosphere

This is where Escape Quest really shines. Visually the game is top notch, theming is fully immersive and absolutely charming. Everything in perfect condition.

Customer service

The GMs were fantastic. They have a really cute system for clues should you need them.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

Thematically, the game is extraordinary.

Story

Their narrative is wonderful and extends across all of their games to form a cohesive story arc. The story is really well executed via the theming - but not integrated as much via the puzzles themselves.

Difficulty

Medium

Puzzles weren’t difficult but there are likely more than a small group can solve.

Game tech

Very low tech.

Ideal number of players

5

Didn’t require a lot of communication as most puzzles were standalone. A group of 4-6 is probably right to hit all the puzzles in the space.

Another brilliant game from Escape Quest! This was the fourth one we've done here and it was perfect. Just when we thought we'd seen everything they could offer, they pull the rug out from under us and surprise us all over again! Cannot wait for what they do in their new one.
