Welcome to a twisted corner of the 1930s. A group of Freemasons in Innsmouth, Massachusetts have recently roused an ancient, evil being beyond all mortal control. The brothers thought they could control it and harness its immense power in order to rule over humanity. But they were very, very wrong. Terrifying nightmares and portents have lead you and several others to the front steps of their cursed Masonic Hall. You don't know exactly what happened inside this building, but you do know that your dreams have called you to this place for a reason. You must lock away the evil within before madness consumes both your group and the rest of the human race.

As always, EHA put on an amazing show. Stop back in time and get ready to save the world. Someone made poor life choices, and you’ve an hour to put it all right. No pressure. This room is spooky, but not scary. We have done the Cabin multiple times, and that definitely had us more worked up in here, but don’t expect jump scares or live actors in this escape. The immersion is still the best in the business, though!

Gameplay

EHA knows how to build immersive, challenging, and novel rooms. Call of the Ancient ours you right into the middle of a classic story of stopping an otherworldly horror from rampaging our world. The puzzles match the aesthetic of the time and require some out-of-the-box thinking. We loved it.

Atmosphere

Once you enter an EHA room, you’re no longer in Austin, Tx. Immersion is what they do best. Lose yourself in this story and get ready for an amazing time!

Customer service

The staff is always phenomenal! They’re helpful without breaking the immersion. The hint systems at EHA are truly the best in the business. No awkward screens here, just a thematic, well done, and integrated piece of art.

We had 5 in our group, and it felt slightly cramped. A smaller group will more evenly divide puzzles. If you want to bring people who aren’t as passionate about puzzle solving, a group of up to 6 will do fine.

Fun room, if I'm being honest, for the price point the room is a little basic. The flow of the puzzles was very linear so our group really didn't have to split up for very long. The story was very surface level, so there really isn't much to comment on. This is just me being picky, but the actor in the pre-game video was very obviously reading from a script off screen so I was never fully immersed in the world. I enjoyed how they used the space to make us crawl but can easily see how people could get stuck spending lots of time in there. We played as a group of 4 and the puzzles weren't that hard for us. Only a few logic puzzles, mostly finding numbers and inserting them into locks. Quite a bit of reading but not so much that we were spending too much time on it. We would have easily ended up as the first place on the leaderboard if we opted for the "enthusiast mode" as we only used 2 clues. There was a point when a door locked us into a small space on accident which ended up losing us a few minutes right at the end. I don't want to dog on the game master but it took far too long to reopen that door. They also didn't mention it at all. I'm not going to say don't come here because you SHOULD support small family owned escape rooms, I just was hoping for more considering the price.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback on Call of the Ancient. We're glad you found aspects of the room enjoyable and appreciate your honesty about where things fell short for you. We always strive to deliver an immersive and well-paced experience, so we’re especially sorry to hear the puzzle flow and story depth didn’t fully meet expectations. Your comments about the pre-game video and the game master delay are particularly helpful — these are areas we’ll review closely with our team. We also understand your concerns about value for the price point, and we’re continuously evaluating how we can improve both gameplay and overall experience. We appreciate your support of family-owned escape rooms and hope you’ll consider giving one of our other games a try in the future. Your feedback helps us grow!

A solid room. Not as amazing as some of the others at Escape Hour, but decent. The theme was great and the props were fun.

Unravel a dark, Lovecraftian mystery and strive to undo the horror currently menacing the world. Puzzle-heavy, excellent use of space, and a story that builds. Some parts may be difficult to access for folks with limited mobility. Our GM, Ky, was lovely!

Aside from one puzzle that had a temporary glitch, we loved everything about this room, from the theming to the set to the story to the puzzles to the unique way the GM interacts with you.

An essential puzzle wasn’t working, and the GM wasn’t able to see that it wasn’t working, so they kept telling us that it was working when it wasn’t. But once they figured it out, they took off the time we’d spent bashing our heads against the broken puzzle off our final time, which we appreciated.
