I’m a pretty seasoned escape room player, and unfortunately, my experience at Legend of the Pines was disappointing. We did not escape, and several aspects of the room made the experience frustrating. One major issue was the game master—it was clear they weren’t paying close attention to our game. We repeatedly received hints for things we had already solved rather than the information we actually needed, which wasted valuable time and added to our frustration. Beyond that, the room itself had several problems. The standard puzzles didn’t feel intuitive, and on top of that, there were multiple puzzles that required a physical component to solve. While I personally don’t enjoy these types of challenges, I can usually work through them. However, in this game, they were so finicky and frustrating that we spent over 20 minutes struggling—not because we didn’t understand the puzzle, but because of the execution. Also, they explicitly stated at the beginning that everything in the room was single-use—but that is not true in this room. There was an element that had to be reused, which threw us off. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this escape room, and I don’t plan on returning to Solve It Sherlock. There are much better options out there in New Jersey for escape room enthusiasts.
Hello hKeller. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We always appreciate thoughtful feedback—especially from experienced players—and we’re sorry to hear that Legend of the Pines didn’t meet your expectations. We’ve reviewed your comments and wanted to speak to a couple of points you raised. Our rooms are carefully designed to be intuitive, immersive, and fair—and while we do incorporate some light physical interaction to fit the theme, all elements are thoroughly tested for clarity and safety. From what we can tell, one of the earlier items may have been mistakenly reused in a later puzzle, which could explain the difficulty you encountered. For clarity: each item in the room IS intended for single use only, and we’ve reminded our game masters to emphasize that more clearly during the briefing. We also take game mastering seriously and regret that your hint experience felt off. Our team has been coached on this, and we’re reinforcing internal protocols to ensure hints are timely, relevant, and supportive of a smooth gameplay experience. While we understand this visit didn’t hit the mark, we truly value your input and hope you’ll consider giving us another shot in the future. If you'd like to discuss your experience further, feel free to give us a call—we’re always happy to talk and learn. Thanks again, The Solve It Sherlock Team 🕵️♂️🔍

Super fun loved the concept. As a Jersey native it’s fun to see the folk lore turned into a room :)
Music was a little spooky I kept thinking someone was coming in lol

A little easy for experienced escape room players. 7/10 rating is a little lenient if you know basic escape puzzle ideas.
Not scary
Thanks for the feedback! Legend of the Pines was built to be story-driven and accessible, but we appreciate insights from experienced players like you. Hope we can challenge you with one of our more difficult games next time! 🧩

This room was awesomely themed! Tommy was a great game master, he only nudged us when necessary! The ambiance was stellar and I was told ot was done by a haunts house company (which shows) but the puzzles were all home grown! Apart from the one key puzzle, the room was an utter blast! Head up, and give it a try, it's truly a good time. Keep the number between 2 and 4 though, otherwise the room m8ght feel super small.
Tommy was a king! He even put up with me trying to talk about other rooms and as I am super chatty, I feel for him!

It's the best Jerset Devil room I've done!
The intro was a little long, but really well scripted and acted.

There is a step, and a tiny room that would be hard/impossible for disabled players.

Pretty nice room. Appropriately low-tech and was a nice change to be very dark - although a door that shouldn’t have been open was. Clues were slightly obtuse but it all made sense at the end.

Thanks for the feedback! We're glad you enjoyed the darker vibe—it’s something we loved leaning into for that immersive feel for this game. Appreciate you playing and hope to see you again soon! 🕵️♂️🔦

The GPS location in Waze was weirdly incorrect but worked fine in Google Maps
It was fun, a few of the puzzles were a bit slow though
A bit too dark.

Thanks for playing! And yep—GPS loves sending everyone on a little pre-game adventure. Typing “Solve It Sherlock” into Google or Waze usually does the trick. Glad you found us… the mystery starts before you even arrive! 😉🗺️🕵️♂️

Good set design and immersion, but suuuuper dark. Some cool moments, flow not bad once you get nudged a little. Attentive GM. Overall I’d say 3/5 stars.
Thanks for the honest feedback and for giving us a try! We're glad you enjoyed the set design and appreciated your game master's support. Hope to welcome you back for another game soon! 🕵️♂️

It was a bit dark even after the lights came on. The whole two-finger rule and don't force it doesn't necessarily apply here. It didn't seem like the GM was paying attention much because I had done some thing ten minutes prior and she didn't say anything. Finally, she did.
A bit dark but the set design was cool.
