With subtle pop culture Easter eggs abound, ‘Tekapo’s Temple’ is built around some impressive set pieces and room transitions that help the game stand out amongst the tomb raider-esque escape games in Australia. While some puzzle elements of the room aren’t quite as diegetic as their newer experience ‘Undead Army’, the variety of puzzles and interactions make for a very enjoyable experience. Playing the game as a 2-player team resulted in one puzzle being accessed in a slightly different way, which we felt leaned into the gorgeous stone temple aesthetic even more than the larger team version. Without saying anything too specific, the final puzzle is an interesting experience. It’s one worth pondering over prior to finishing the game. The Way Out are avid escape room fans themselves, and that passion shines through in their rooms. It is great to play their three rooms and see how, experience by experience, this family-run business is iterating and bolstering their already impressive designs. I look forward to their next game!
