Blackbeard is dead, his loot lies unguarded. Sink or swim? It’s up to you. Step onto a pirate galleon in the middle of a battle for control of the High Seas. Your captain, the terrifying Blackbeard, has just been killed and his ship is shot to pieces and sinking fast. With no chance of victory, you and your scurvy shipmates decide to jump ship – after helping yourself to the contents of Blackbeard’s legendary treasure chest. You’ve broken into his cabin to grab all you can, but now the door has jammed shut and you’ve just 60 minutes to escape; any longer and you’ll drown – if the sharks don’t get you first.

Escape Hunt’s take on a pirate escape room delivers strong aesthetics that are beleaguered by overtly modern padlocks and technology. It’s a fun game, with some strong puzzles that fit within the pirate theme, but it doesn’t reinvent the wheel. The set pieces, and the wooden design do make the room feel like a pirate ship, which I would say is the highlight of the experience. I would hazard a guess to say that this is their most immersive set to date.

Gameplay

Flow was good, on some occasions you are given keys and it isn’t clear which locks this is for — trial and error. Obviously a minor thing but I think having more of a clear narrative/direction as to what you’re opening, and why, would bolster the experience.

Atmosphere

The set design itself was great, the props were fun as well. A few puzzles weren’t in theme at all and did disrupt immersion slightly. The locks and a few other pieces, like the TV, remind you that you’re in a designed room, not truly a pirate ship.

i thought the room design was absolutely beautiful - however i think the gameplay being not superrr linear meant that we were off to a very slow start. definitely picked up as we went but there was one puzzle that we struggled for so long which was very frustrating. still made it out though and had lots of fun!!

Disappointed with this room as there was a puzzle not set properly and we were able to skip a whole section and end up at the end of the game, did the room in 20mins, they did give us a partial refund but it wasn't about the money
