Beat the Zodiac Thief at their own game before they strike again. A thief has been breaking into vaults across Melbourne. Due to the letters and cryptograms they leave at the crime scene, he or she has been dubbed the Zodiac Thief. As detectives you follow the clues to an abandoned mine. However, as you descend the mine shaft the lift shuts down. Can you beat the Zodiac Thief at their own game or will the thief strike again?

Zodiac Heist surprised me in regard to puzzle content as I believed going in that it was definitely on the easier side of their offerings. Still not a super difficult room but could still be pretty tricky for beginners with how much there is to work through. The room itself wasn’t anything out of the ordinary with a straightforward flow, a bit of hide and seek and a pretty obscure story. A couple “red herrings” around the place that felt more like out of order puzzles than purposeful misleads but it wasn’t the end of the world. Pretty middle of the road experience with a couple decent puzzles scattered throughout.

Zodiac Heist was a bit of a strange one for me. Some interesting puzzles and challenging tasks to complete mixed in with baffling red herrings and failing tech, it felt like it was almost missing pieces. The set design was okay, a little worn and tired. The mine theming is also kind of odd, I understand the idea but the execution just felt a bit weird. Storyline felt pretty non-existent, I wasn't really ever sure of what our end goal was and then we found some jewels to end the game? The famed Zodiac jewels? Sure. There was also a puzzle that did not activate despite us doing the correct actions. Apparently the mechanism is broken and we were offered a solution but only after asking for assistance. Feels like something the staff should be actively looking out for. Overall a little bit of a whirlwind but not too bad.

This room was so fun! We had just had a crap experience at an escape room at strike (don’t go there), and this room reminded us why we fell in love with escaping. The staff was also lovely and gave us a discount to do another room. The puzzles were rewarding and got every team member involved, I could not recommend it more

Disappointing on the whole, the props and rooms were old and tired (not sure if they have been updated since we last visited). Clues and hints within the room did not make sense at times, and the staff forgot to reset the room properly, so we spent time searching for a key that didn't exist, had to call for help and were given an apology for the mishap. Took us right out of the experience. The second room of this story was a lot better, but by this point, it had lost it's magic.

Gameplay

Clues did not match up or help with what to do next. We stumbled around and found things by accident.

Atmosphere

It was ok, compared to other rooms this looked very tacky and thrown together in room 1, but room 2 was a lot better in setup and design. The key missing really killed the atmosphere.

Customer service

I felt like a credit voucher to come back should have been offered for a substandard experience, but nothing was.

Particularly interesting or different

No

Seen quite a few rooms that have similar theme, but were designed a lot better.

Story

Story was ok, but the lack of immersion took away from it.

Hard to say exactly as the room wasn't properly set up.

Key not in place and a long stick with a mirror on it was half broken. Some of the props were scratched, peeling or needing repairs too. Could see duck tape holding things together in places.

The room seems to be showing it’s age to wear and tear. Interesting element which made the room enjoyable. However, could do with a refresh.
