First discovered nearly a century ago, the Realm of Magic remains full of the unknown. Within the realm, adventurers have divined uncertain futures and even less certain pasts on a quest for knowledge, dabbled in alchemy creating magical elixirs and tonics on a search for youth, and been perplexed by riddles & enchantments whilst following the history of power. Much like the other Arcana, the Wand of Illumination and the Elixir of Life, the Stone of Destiny is said to imbue the holder with supernatural talents. It is written in legend that the Stone of Destiny bestows the bearer with wisdom beyond measure, and the ability to divine the truth about both things that have passed and things that are yet to come. This adventure is most suitable for those seeking a true challenge, to find an artefact whose very existence is marked by extraordinary knowledge.

We did both ‘Search For The Stone Of Destiny’ and ‘Pursuit Of The Elixir Of Life’ rooms and unfortunately both were disappointing. Both these experiences (and a third which we did not do) occurs in the exact same rooms. The only difference being that depending on which experience you are doing, some puzzles a not assessable. It is essentially three seperate streams of linear puzzles within the same space. Whilst this concept was intriguing when explained to us, we felt the second experience felt too similar, repetitive and got a little boring. The few puzzles which are assessable to you are minimal. It would have been preferable to combine all three experiences into a single game. The augmented reality with a hand held phone felt like a gimmick. It was unnecessary, it did not add any magical moments or wow factor. All it did was display a message that otherwise could have been a physical page.

This room closed out our time playing Arcadium games (at least until a new room opens). The feeling of returning to a familiar space to play a new escape game is one that is largely unique to Arcadium in the Australian escape room scene. As the third game in the space, it felt rewarding to finally know how each puzzle piece and prop is utilised in the space. The Stone of Destiny was a moderately challenging game with a good array of puzzle types. From talking to Thaddeus after the game, it’s clear that the latest iterations the Arcadium team enacted have improved the player experience significantly. This is particularly true across their other rooms as well. The Arcadium team genuinely care about continually improving their games, and I’m excited to play their upcoming designs, and to revisit their earlier games as they continue to iterate.

The flow of the game was easy to follow, which is impressive considering there are three games in a single shared space.

This room was a bit confusing. Theme and decoration in this room are nice, the puzzles quite hard and nicely challenging, but good puzzles. But really confusing is how there are 3 (!!) rooms in one room here. There‘s lots and lots of cupboards and chests and posters and hints on the wall and around you, that you don‘t actually need for your specific adventure. Some of them are marked as such (having the signature of one of the other 2 adventures), but many, really many!, of them won‘t and leave you guessing. So most of the time we actually spent figuring out what to ignore and what to use in the room, than actually working on the puzzles. I think this could have been done better. We played rooms before where there were multiple adventures in one room and it did not feel like that at all. Here, unfortunately, it does feel like 3 adventures cramped into one room and that makes it a really confusing room. Game master was nice, though. And like I said, the puzzles are nice and within theme and challenging. And the fantasy, mythical setting and setup is well done.
