At the heart of the enchanted forest of the kingdom of Falderon lies an ancient well, the cradle of a magic so powerful that it fuels all life in the kingdom. Thousand-year-old trees, marvelous creatures, luminous rivers… everything that lives in Falderon depends on it. But to keep the magic flowing, an ancestral ritual must be performed every 100th full moon. But that night, the hobbit in charge of protecting the well and performing the ritual disappeared without a trace. Without him, the magic will slowly fade away, and Falderon will be forgotten. Faced with an emergency, the Queen calls on the kingdom’s greatest powers: a sorcerer with a wise heart, a seer with piercing visions, an apothecary versed in ancient secrets, and a knight of unshakeable courage. Together, they must unite their wits, magic and bravery to find the lost well and perform the ritual before the full moon disappears from the sky. The balance of the kingdom hangs by a thread… and on the success of this quest.

Look at the rating breakdown. Really bad experience for us. The game was heavily broken.

Gameplay

It’s was real bad for us. Insane amount of glitches with the AI and puzzles. The ideas of the puzzles were really cool and cute but the execution took the door.

Atmosphere

Lovely, very cozy and warm. Looks fantastical like a fairy tale.

Customer service

We ran through a lot of issues and the GM didn’t want to help us through out the technical issues unless the AI would request their assistance. Which it did at first but later on the game completely crashed and stopped working. We had to explain to the GM that even if the AI would ask us to communicate with the GM that the game shut down and wouldn’t have any audio just glitch sound when you get a radio channel without signal. After begging for help they sent someone to reset and close/fix the puzzle that were bypass and broken.

Spoilers, don’t read unless you wanna know our issues. The first puzzle with different eggs/berries would not show and play the appropriate message for the color of berries used. The hint fairy would give us answer where to place the correct berries but then the audio/voiceover would contradict it self and tell us to do something else. At some point the traps opens to collect the berries but got stuck open and would freeze The game would bypass/change puzzle as we completed them which glitch the game and the reaction would be also bug and completely shutdown soft locking us in the room. We didn’t get to use one of our item because it was broken/bugged. The audio for funny interactions like the toilet would play over in over in loop without a break. It was unrelated to puzzle. Some audio for completed puzzle would keep looping playing over and over. The chip reader didn’t have réaction to the point that we didn’t even notice there was LED showing if it was the right answer. We ended up wasting time because we had the right answer but wouldn’t work. We had to press down really hard for it to work and wasted 20 minutes on this simple interaction. Because we didn’t have anytime left, in the last room after the game was rebooted it skipped all and every puzzle and gave us a win which took away all opportunities for redemption. I wish I could rate this game better and replay it in a better state but we already wasted about 150$ on this AI mess. I was really excited and looking forward to try this room for months but I’m sorry it was a buggy mess. They didn’t try to make things right by offering anything, like a partial refund or coming back an other time. At least we got 30 extra minutes I guess…

Falderon Forest was a nice execution of some interesting ideas, though not without some weaknesses as well. In particular, I love the idea of games that give players different meaningful roles, since that can lead to memorable hero moments and interesting interactions. This game stands out as the best execution of the different player roles that I've played so far. My understanding is that this game also attempts to be self-run, with a GM only stepping in if things break. This was a little more of a toss-up - being very automated allowed for amusing interactions based on progression, but the system also felt improperly tuned, with some triggers becoming annoying. The one that stands out most to me was an audio cue that was amusing the first time, but then kept triggering over and over. To make matters worse, it wasn't wasn't clear if it was supposed to be cluing us to do something else (it wasn't, it was just for fun). After the game, the GM said they thought it was working as intended, but that just makes me think it wasn't designed well or that corner cases weren't thought out enough. Admittedly, this is a hard task, but that's kind of what I would expect when there's so much automation. We didn't really encounter this, but I heard from other people that the automated hinting can also be hit or miss, as it might not accurately understand what progress you've made. A human GM is still the gold standard. Puzzles felt good and the set was very nice. The storyline was cute, especially the ending. I did think that some of the fairies were overly annoying or distracting - while this is in character for fairies, it's also not really something I enjoy.

I always like per-player roles. The GM-less self-running approach was unusual, and had some plusses and minuses.

There are 4 unique roles, so ideally you have 4 people. There's mostly enough content for this to be fine.

In the final room, one of the pressure sensors was finicky and required us to sometimes lift it up to get it to stop registering.

You are either going to love this room or want to strangle your friends. You ALL have a part to play that is unique, so pay attention to each role's strengths and weaknesses! Super unique room in that aspect, and very charming. We did have a tech failure, but the staff addressed it very quickly.

So much joy and fun in this game. Live in the moment, enjoy the fairy banter, you will have a great time.

The game was logical, we got caught in our own traps a few times or our time might have been better lol.

So much fun and so much amazing "little" details (pun intended) .

Lovely, clever, evocative room. Like everything at SQP, one thing was broken and needed a GM to reset it. The fairy voices are adorable and its nice that you have to listen to them.

Wonderful game and the set is very well done. We experiences one minor tech glitch late in the game but did not detract from the experience. We learned other teams on our tour had the same problem. The owner was apologetic and we loved a bit of the behind the scenes conversation with him after our game. This is a must do if you're in the area.

The game has beautiful decor, funny quips and the AI assistance is definitely impressive, but I don’t think escape rooms are ready for AI hint giving. As much as the AI knew what step we were at, they didn’t know how to push us in the right direction without giving the answer right away. Since the AI adapts to the team, and we took particularly long with the first step, I think it registered that we were struggling, so defaulted to the “easy mode” for the rest of the game. Things like this are why, for now, a real game master giving clues is the best way to run an escape room.
