This room has a lot of potential though dropped the ball

It was just one room (a room and a half, to be generous), but there was a lot of empty space. Puzzles were linear, and were pretty simple and not too many. There was one chess puzzle, that I think was meant to take up the whole time, especially for people that are unfamiliar with the game or only casual. I've been playing chess for years, so we did not have that much trouble with this puzzle.
I got really annoyed at their notation (for example, you'd say column-row like e5, but they used the unconventional notation of row number first and then column letter like 5e). I realize this is a nitpicky complaint, but it breaks immersion for me a little bit, and made the experience more frustrating as I had to "learn how to ride a bicycle backwards", so-to-speak.
Asking for a hint also required the GM to enter the room, which is a little too behind the times.
