I had a LOT of fun with the puzzles in this room. A few of them were pretty simple, but I’m not a puzzle genius so I still liked them a lot. The potion and hammer puzzles were my favs! Some of the puzzles kind of made me wonder how were we supposed to deduce that this would lead to that or be related to that, but the puzzles themselves were so cute and fun.

This is an awesome place!! The rooms are so well decorated and themed. A lot of time and effort go into these rooms for sure. This will always be a place I highly recommend.

Nocturnal Keep had some great puzzles with lots of variety in puzzle type! The GM (possibly owner?) is an enthusiast herself, which is always a major green flag in my book. I really appreciated the clarity of the task and steps to accomplish it, and thought the hint system was fun and clever. The room theme is pretty generic, but is still worth playing for the puzzles themselves. There was one point where I was asking for a hint for two minutes straight and had to ask three separate times before receiving a response. While I can appreciate that they were short-staffed and the GM was juggling a lot at once, it's also stressful when the clock is ticking and you're trying to get the attention of someone who isn't there. Additionally, there was one puzzle that required color differentiation in which it genuinely felt impossible to differentiate the colors because they were too similar. Even using the provided lanterns, we could not tell which color was which. I ended up having to go to my jacket and get my phone flashlight to have a strong enough light to tell which color was which, which was a bummer because it kind of broke the immersion. If you, like me, are someone who prefers to play the rooms at a location based on the quality of the room, ending with the strongest room, the order I would recommend is Nocturnal Keep, Baggage Bandits, and then Mole of the Mountain. Nocturnal Keep was a nice room and we enjoyed ourselves, but having played both of their other rooms already, it didn't live up to what we know the designers here are capable of.
One puzzle requires color differentiation (and was difficult even for us with no color blindness), one puzzle requires hearing to know that you've completed it, and the room requires the ability to crouch.

While Upside Down Escapes doesn't have its own parking lot per se, it is near two large lots with free public parking.

Thanks so much for this thorough review! My apologies for the delay with the hint, we should have let you know that the GM sitting at the controls for your game was in training to explain why it took him a couple minutes to figure out the best way to answer your questions & type his response. We definitely would've added some time to the clock if it was going to affect you escaping or not, but fortunately you gals crushed it! We appreciate your feedback and support :)

This is a must do room if you're visiting Cape Cod! The set design is amazing! It is absolutely gorgeous and you feel as if you're in a medieval castle. The puzzles are a great mix that really makes you think and lead to amazing moments of discovery. I love their clue system and think it's a neat little extra that soothes the sting of having to ask for help. Loved the room! Please go do it!
The last puzzle with the weapons was a little finicky

This is a good room just be aware that if you have happened to do the Dragonborne room at Lara’s Labyrinth that many of the same elements and puzzles appear in this room. I was a little disappointed because all of the other rooms I have done here were unique and seemed proprietary to this independent escape room so it took me by surprise to find exact puzzles and props from a chain escape room that I know buys full rooms from overseas companies that specialize in escape rooms. Nevertheless the room itself was immersive and fun with still some surprise elements.

Thanks for the review Ashley! I apologize for any confusion, since we aren't the original owners of that location, some of the games there have been hybrids from both sets of owners (and Nocturnal Keep just happens to be the last hybrid still standing which is why we have it listed as previously being Dragon's Spire). Dragon's Spire was a game the previous owners had hired a local company to install for them (Wicked in Saugus MA). So while it didn't come from an overseas company, we didn't find out until later that Wicked had also installed a similar game at his brother's escape room (Dragonborne at Lara's Labyrinth). That's why we decided to redesign most of the puzzles in the game and give it a facelift back in 2021, but as advertised some of the puzzles from the original version still remain. Sorry again for the little bit of disappointment! I definitely encourage you to play The Mole of The Mountain next, that is our brand new game that we teamed up with Outside the Box to build (an escape room that used to exist in Webster, MA). It's our best game yet, and I promise there is nothing else quite like it :)

Fun room with a medieval and wizard type theme. We did it with 2 people though the minimum online is 4. They charged us more per person but less than it would cost for 4 people. Though realistically the room isn't physically much larger or more puzzles than other rooms and it wasn't being booked anyways and required the same staffing as other rooms so the extra fee shouldn't be needed. The game itself is a lot of fun with some interesting and different puzzles. Some obvious clues and some very vague ones. Some are just hard to see due to the lighting and novelty lanterns given. There were a couple slow reactions to solving puzzles; either due to a slow main computer for the game (which was definitely the case with the wizard video animation) or just the GMs not actively monitoring the game for things they manually trigger. We used a couple hints foolishly, both for things we already knew the answer to. And the vague hints just forced us to focus and try again (or in the case of one lock shine a better light on it to see what was really needed). Overall finishing in under 60 minutes for a 75 minute game with only two people (on a game they only let you book online with 4 or more) isn't too bad. And we had a lot of fun doing it. We did another of their rooms on the same day and will be back for the third (and hopefully fourth) soon.
Annoyingly dark (trying for atmosphere but bordering on dark as a puzzle, they give lanterns which the orange color off made things hard to see, but allowed phone flashlights which resolved some of our issues).

Medium
A lot to do, and some parts or linear so can't divide an conquer as much.
High tech
Mix of automation and mechanical. There is a tv screen for clues, hints, and part of the theme, but it lagged and glitched a bit. They also pointed out before hand any hints requested would be delayed as it is slow and the intro would take a minute to play. Frankly it just needs a better computer.
5
Spacious room, and first few puzzles can divide and conquer but eventually its one puzzle at a time which can help with different view points.
Spooky
Medieval theme with some skulls but nothing really scary.

TV Screen was glitchy and slow with visual artifacts. Clues presented on screen didn't stop after puzzle was solved (likely GM not realizing puzzle was solved as happened in another room the same day). Likely just needs a more powerful computer for this component. Button presses for a combination didn't always register and needed full sound effect to play to count (time waste and annoying). Completing an electrical circuit in the second room didn't register for several attempts and took more than a minute during the final attempt to trigger.
Somewhat
Not very physical but do need to move often between areas by ducking down and need to carry objects while doing so.
There is an area with a low entrance which would be difficult if not impossible for anyone in a wheelchair or with mobility issues or a devices to get through and must be done often.

This game was wild. It was so awesome to meet one of the owners/designers after the game, Taylor. He was incredibly passionate and he was happy to show us the inner workings and the “behind the scenes” of the game. Seeing his enthusiasm made it all the better for us! We had a great time working through the puzzles.
