The once-thriving Coalcot mining community in West Virginia has set desolate for over a century; an abandoned relic of a bygone era of grit, grime, and tough-as-nails coal miners that courted danger for a day’s wage. While researching the old town, you stumbled across a short entry in an unnamed miner’s diary:

This is our last and probably favourite room here. The rooms are all very dark though. Our game master was attentive and helpful and immediately responded to hints requests/questions. The main part we didn’t like (not room specific but applies to all rooms here) is that you get 1 hint free and every hint thereafter results in losing 5 minutes of time. However the hints were solid and always resulted in us being very clear what our next step was.

Liked the room design but did not like the rule about the hints and losing time.

If you have only done rooms in the KW area, this one should be at the top of your list! The most immersive room in the area with awesome design and tech that really makes you feel like you're down in the ground. The puzzles are fun and challenging enough to keep a group busy! Some really great team moments to enjoy in this room!

The set up of the room was more immersive than most I’ve seen. However, some of the props have seen better days. They still did the job, but clearly have seen a lot of escape attempts.

The most immersive room I’ve ever seen. The commitment to the mine shaft is good.

A few tech-y puzzles - but mostly, I would consider it mechanical.

We did it with 2. So 2-4. Any more than that would be crowded.

Nothing was broken in that it didn’t work, but certain aspects showed wear.

Not accessible. The floor is not smooth. Also very dim. Although they did allow us to use our phones as flashlights.

I would give it about 8/10. There’s not a huge amount of puzzles, but the atmosphere, and props are great. The integration with the technology puzzles was satisfying. It was a fun room. Some scavenger hunt elements to go with the traditional escape room solving puzzles.

This is my favourite room out of the 3 they have and LOVE the set design. It truly feels like you’re in a mineshaft! The puzzles are challenging but definitely gratifying to complete. Beware, your clothes and shoes will end up a little dusty, but it bushed off easily! :)
Some items and aspects are a little worn and could use some upkeep, but overall the set design was really well done!
