Your team has been tasked with a recovery operation by the research and development firm known as ONEIROS. My first escape room! This room was great. The storyline was awesome and the puzzles were impressive. I was surprised about the physical activity involved, but we didn't have an issue with it. Just make sure a couple of people can climb easily. There's plenty to do in every room, so if you can't climb into the back, no worries!

We escaped with 3, but I think 4 would be best.

Not intentionally spooky, but there was something that jumpscared us all lol

Definitely some kid-friendly parts, but there is some high to reach puzzles and will require adult brain power.

Some dark areas and flashing lights if I recall properly. Mobility aids are possible in the main room, but it's pretty tight.

Overall a fine game, though it felt a little uneven. Of the three games at Twisted Limits, I thought this made the most effort at putting players in the middle of an ongoing plot and telling a story that moved around them. The set was decent, though had an odd mix of subtle details that played into the story and immersion-breaking "why is this here?" moments. Similarly with puzzles - some felt like they were neatly interwoven with the story and some that were just there because an escape room needs puzzles and they were vaguely thematic. To some extent, I think this is true of all 3 games at Twisted Limits, but I thought the variance was highest in Behind the Curtain.

Damian and Joe were some of the friendliest and most enthusiastic staff I've met. They clearly think a lot about escape rooms and are really invested.

Accessibility

There is one section that requires a little bit of dexterity to maneuver through; failing to do so means those players will miss out on seeing some parts of the game but I guess is technically optional as long as at least some of the team continues on.

1st time doing a Twisted Limits ER and it was great! TL is at the same quality level of 60 to Escape and The Escape Game franchises, so that is really saying something. The sets in Behind the Curtain were unbelievable and all of the props were real items, some of which were very large and heavy objects. TL does not nail down most of their props, so you can pick up and move a lot of objects, while investigating everything. This was a physical room which required some lassoing, carrying, building, climbing, and crawling, so you need to have a few mobile team members. We had someone in a walking boot, so they did not complete these physical parts of the room, but there is a lot to do in this room so there is plenty for everyone. We brought 6 people and I recommend 4-6 people. Some of the tech in the rooms were really surprising with what happened after we achieved the desired result. There was both new and older technology used in this room and all of it worked really well and was perfect for the applicable puzzle. There was a wide variety of puzzles in this room. There was a really cool puzzle where when you become “part of the audience”, a special effect is revealed. A lot of teamwork and communication is essential in this non-linear room, and you get steered in the proper direction by the additional clues that are present. Customer Service is great at TL. Our GM, Riley, was an enthusiast himself and was very cool to talk to before and after the experience. He answered all of our questions about how things worked and really seemed into our group’s experience to make sure he only gave us slight nudges on a few areas since he knew we were doing well with the room. Definitely one of my favorite rooms I have ever done as there was a lot to explore and we all had a lot of fun with everything we experienced. Can’t wait to go back to do their other two rooms (The Passage and Executive Disorder) and I heard two more rooms may be ready later this year. If you are ever in Chicagoland area, TL ER’s are worth the trip!

This is one of the first rooms I did several years ago, and made Twisted Limits and instant favorite. The puzzles were incredibly engaging, with minor physical challenges I haven't seen anywhere else! We loved this room so much, we came back to play the rest within the span of a few months, and I don't regret it a bit.

We loved everything about this experience. We cannot wait for our next trip there to do another room. From the time we walked in and met the staff to the time we left the place we loved it all. The room was set up perfectly and we could tell the time and effort put into making this an unforgettable experience for all. My family still cannot stop talking about our experience there. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes to have fun and is up for the challenge.

Gameplay

The gameplay was unmatched. This room was such an amazing experience. It all made perfect sense and gave all the right details to help solve the clues of the room. It was not easy yet all the twists and turns made you live out the story of the game. You need to use your head on this one.

Atmosphere

You can tell a lot of thought, time and effort went into this room. It all gave for a completely epic experience. All of the details came together to allow you to live out the details and be a part of the story.

Customer service

The staff were absolutely amazing! Especially Damien; our “host for the evening”. He was funny, friendly, welcoming, and super helpful when we got a little stuck on how to progress in the room. We appreciated how quick he was with helping if and when we needed it.

Physically active

Very

We loved this about our room. Nothing over the top but the right amount of physical involvement which made this experience unforgettable.

Another fun room at Twisted Limits. All of their rooms feel distinct and unique. This one required a lot of physical movement and carrying things around. It did get slightly frustrating at times, but it still was a great room. I really liked how certain things were hidden. The GM here is an enthusiast who just purchased a few other locations, so I'm excited to see what he does next.

Twisted Limits is easily one of my favorite spots in the Chicagoland area, it's clear that Joe (the owner) and his employees genuinely care about creating a great and memorable experience for their customers. I've been here twice with the Chicago Escape Room Meetup group and we had a blast both times. "Behind the Curtain" had some unique elements that I've never seen before in an escape room, and is a little more "physical" than most. Puzzles were on the easier side, but still challenging. There were some pretty cool twists as well!

This is such a high-quality room. Just from the puzzle design and flow it is apparent that it’s a bit on the older side, but this was a well-executed gen 1.5 room. The set looked great, and there was a wide range of different types of puzzles. No logical leaps were ever required. Excitement was built throughout, and everything culminated nicely at the end of the room. This was a physical room and I was actually sweating by the end. Joe and Damian are amazing and were more than willing to talk about escape rooms!
