12 escape rooms
As English speakers visiting Rome for a week we really wanted to try an escape room, and I'm so glad we settled on this one after seeing some positive reviews that mentioned having an actor in the room. It turned out our actor was our game master, who took on several improv roles within the escape room and was able to gently prod the game along without giving direct hints which makes everything so much more fun. His enthusiasm and commitment to his roles made it feel like a hybrid between a traditional escape room and almost something like a murder mystery party where we were trying to figure out ways to play our roles and manipulate information out of him. The way it worked was a few key materials in the escape room we were given pretty good English language versions of and for the few things in the room that were written out it had both the Italian and English translations, and the game master was fluent enough in English that we made it all work! If we had a timer going I didn't notice it so I don't know exactly what our finish time was but my husband clocked it out and from when we got there to when we left it had to have been under the standard hour. Accessibility wise this room has several sub-rooms that require climbing some steps and crawling through a narrow passage, ask in advance before booking if you have concerns on mobility or size for any of your participants.
Gameplay
It flowed very well for our group of two escape hobbyists and our niece that had done a couple rooms. The most novel bits were reliant on improv between us and the game master, so although it was a fairly low tech room with a pretty linear solve pattern it felt fresh and full of possibilities.
Atmosphere
The set was lovingly built and well decorated, while the imagination certainly had to do a little work it never felt like we were just put in any old room they had with a quick 1 day paint job to make it suit the theme. A lot of work went into making 4 sub-rooms feel very distinct and have some of the magical qualities of the premise. The lobby was also decorated very nice with a steampunk theme. Props were well maintained which is always nice.
Customer service
Besides the amazing acting skills our GM, who I am so sorry I didn't catch the name of, was amazingly welcoming!
Physically active
Somewhat
Nothing too crazy, just a bit of steps to get up and over into a third subroom and an awkward crawl through a ground passage maybe 2 and a half feet tall to get into the final sub-room. Thankfully running back and forth between rooms was generally not necessary unless you forgot an important reference material for the whole adventure.
