Legends speak of the three smuggler brothers Hanseaticus. It is said that they stole not from merchants and farmers, but from kings and emperors. Over the years they amassed treasures of unspeakable value, and kept it hidden away. It is their chest that you seek in this room. A hundred years have passed since man laid eyes upon the treasure. A treasure guarded by padlocks to keep out those of lacking strength, by riddles to keep out those of lacking mind, and a curse to keep out those of lacking heart. For if any were to attempt their hand in the room and not get out before their time runs out, they too are turned into gold. Be warned, brave souls. You risk much, coming here. Good luck."

36 escape rooms

This was apparently the first escape room in Norway but it still holds up pretty well! A very non-linear room of lock and key, good for a moderate group. Each puzzle gave some satisfaction and required different kinds of thinking. Very fun to be in such a historical building. Our group of two wouldn’t quite get through everything in time— lots to do, and we were less than perfectly efficient and two points— but we still had a lot of fun (and the host generously let us go through the ending after unsticking us on our last puzzle). Overall, still a room worth doing.

It just takes time to operate all the puzzles, this room would benefit from more hands on deck! Since it’s very non linear it would be particularly good for larger groups

Accessibility

Room itself is up several steep staircases with no elevator

Easy to find location

It’s within the crowded tangle of historic buildings but they did their best with signage

Escape Bryggen - Bergen, Norway Hanseaticus: A group of smugglers have hidden their precious treasure. We had to locate the treasure and escape undiscovered. Pros: Escape Bryggen has three games in two different locations. The room in the heart of the historic district on the wharf was located in one of the old buildings in a back alleyway. This immediately added to the ambience. We arrived in Bergen in the morning and went straight to play the rooms. We had been awake for 32 hours and were exhausted from jet lag. We played all three games in a row with only about 15 minutes in between. We found our minds were foggy as we struggled to wake up enough to focus on puzzle solving. The rooms were particularly challenging, multi linear with lots of puzzles and locks. We slogged through the first game making slow progress and stumbling awkwardly as a result of the lack of sleep. We were not able to escape the first game. We did successfully escape the next two games as the adrenaline kicked in and we gained a bit more clarity with each game. The sets were basic but tied to the themes. The puzzles are all very logical, the game masters offered help as needed and the storyline of each room was outlined in the beginning. Cons: There were so many puzzles in these rooms that it was difficult for two people. Three to four would be ideal here. Other than that and our need for sleep, these were solid escape room experiences. So far Norway has scored an A on escape rooms!

25 escape rooms

The oldest room at Escape Bryggen! It is a single room with an entire system of puzzles built around a long series of Gen-1 lockpads with keys and combinations, which is to be expected in a UNESCO heritage site. Very straightforward with a more minimalist approach to set design and story, but still charming. With just 2 people we still breezed through without much of an issue - if you’re more experienced I might start with their harder Varg Veum option. Good place to stop by if you’re in Bergen on a rainy day.

My husband and I did this room alone. It was a lot for two people but we enjoyed all of it. Puzzles were creative and well done. The game master was great at giving hints when we were stuck to help us be successful. Wish our usual escape rooms group was with to do this room because it was that good.
