Nonna's House

Really fun room. There's some structure to the gameplay without revealing too much, that scaffolding was kind of nice. Good mix of puzzle types. One element I've never seen before. Gamemaster was proactive about nudging us when we were idling on something -- if you're the type of player who prefers to only get hints when asked for, mention that up front.

Nonna’s House is the final Ocean State Escape room we’ve done, and it probably is our favorite of them. Yes, it is first gen, so you will encounter locks, but not an irritating amount. There are shinier rooms out there, but Nonna’s House has charm and personality, plus clean, logical puzzle design throughout that makes it a fun, frustration-free play. The personal connection to the owner-designer’s family is that extra sparkle dust you can only get in non-chain escape rooms. I wish they’d turn their experience to designing a new room so we could go back!

Nonna has never been one to simply stay at home and bake cookies but now her extra circulars may have caught up with her! I loved the story! This just seemed like something that my grandmother may have done in her free time. The set reminded me of Grandma's kitchen and was full of the little knickknacks that I remember from my childhood. The later portion of the game was full of surprises and added an unexpected twist. The puzzles were great and had a nice homemade touch that went with the tone of the room.

We did this room shortly after it opened and we're placed with a group of first time escape room players and knew it was gonna be a good time from the start. There's a great twist, some neat props, and probably filled with plastic bottles after I was there (I'm so sorry about breaking that glass on the table in the back room!) This was a fantastic first room premiere for the company and if this build quality is just a preview of what they're capable of, can't wait to see what they do after mummys curse. Final rating: 8/10

Ocean State Escape is a great family owed business and my team always has a great time there! Nonna’s House is their oldest room. It is mostly gen 1 and low tech but there is a LOT of puzzles (Ocean State really likes to pack a lot of puzzles into their rooms :) ). While this may be their “easiest” room and good for beginners, it still managed to keep my experienced group busy and having a fun time! The OSC staff is very friendly and they offer as many or as few hints as you want, so this is a great room for beginners, though if this is one of your first rooms you may need to work fast. For experienced players I would recommend a smaller group of 2 or 3, and I recommend checking out their mischievous elf room as well!

Overall fun room. A couple unexpected twists and a reasonable flow to the room. There are a couple decorations in the experience that were part of no longer included puzzles that might result in a minor time waste. And a couple props which contain clues that look to just be set dressing. Not unheard of in escape rooms, and shouldn't cause much of a problem. Would definitely recommend.

This is an escape room that is clearly deeply personal to the creators, mixing stories of their real life relative with fiction to create a soulful, homey experience. The set is lovingly decorated, and the gameplay is traditional but satisfyingly challenging. The owners are incredible people, super friendly and passionate. If you’re in Rhode Island, make this one of your stops.
