Under new ownership of the previously condemned Madame Locktane's Inn & Suites, you and your fellow team members have been hired in to repair the inn in preparation for its grand re-opening. While carrying out your duties, you and your team encounter a similar outage from the Inn's history. You creep into the darkness to successfully restore the power and escape before your unfortunate demise is secured. Testing your senses, with the exception of sight, will you be able to restore the power to Madame Locktane’s Inn & Suites and escape the darkness? Or will you be consumed by the monstrosities that lie within the walls of this condemned motel?

SO FUN! WOW this was a very unique experience. The puzzles are not hard but obviously a challenge in the dark. Perfect amount of difficulty imo. I did smack my face a few times on things but that’s my bad. Not scary at all and such a nice change of pace from the usual. 10/10 would do it again.

This was one of the most fun rooms I've done. The puzzles are fairly simple but the complete lack of light added an incredibly fun aspect to it. We cackled the entire time.

The dark added so much. And was pure fun instead of the scary youd expect from a dark room.

Scary

Not scary

The only scary part is expecting it to be scary. I promise there's nothing scary in it.

Doesn't seem like a kid friendly room due to the dark and needing to be at least 5 foot tall to reach everything.

This is not a room for most physical disabilities; you must be fully mobile. Any eye impairments would be fine as so much is in the dark anyway. Hearing is not relevant.

This is a solid, unique room that does the pitch black experience better than any room we’ve ever seen. It’s tricky trying to convey how this goes without spoiling anything, and how to gauge your interest. Your enjoyment will depend entirely on how open you are to playing what is essentially 70% a (near) pitch black experience. Your initial introduction and the buildout is very detailed, setting the stage for everything really well, and the pitch black portion is also thoughtfully constructed, avoiding almost any head bumps or injuries that anyone could sustain. The footprint of the room actually isn’t that big, but it works to the room’s advantage because there’s just enough for your senses and brain to contend with in the darkness for the duration. Your enjoyment will also depend entirely on how good your communication is with teammates. As close friends we had a great time and a lot of laughs when accidentally bumping into each other and discovering/describing weird items we came across in the darkness, trying to hand off things to one another. Consider playing with people who are maybe a bit experienced with escape rooms. I wouldn’t say the room is really “difficult” because there’s is a lot of basic logic, especially if you’re very experienced with escape rooms. It’s just made harder due to the lack of light and reliance on your other senses. You can opt to use a flashlight but it would make the experience last probably 5 minutes at most. The enjoyment is using your senses and piecing all the mystery together, and it’s done really really well. The Escape Ventures has been probably the most consistent company we’ve ever played, with some of the most high quality, thoughtful, creative and well made experiences. While this isn’t quite as awe inspiring as their other offerings, it’s still an extremely fun, novel, well designed and very entertaining escape room that’s perfect with a small group of good friends.

151 escape rooms

I can't get over how smart this room design was! One of my biggest pet peeves in escape rooms is when they try to design a room that they don't actually have the space and/or means to create and "Outage: No Vacancy" is a masterclass in how an escape room can make the most out of a limited amount of space. This room was very small BUT the gameplay was still very fun and immersive because of the unique theme. If you are looking for a room that has a super elaborate set, do one of the other rooms at "The Escape Ventures" but if you are looking for a room that will challenge your puzzle solving skills in a different way, I would definitely recommend this one!

Gameplay

I really liked the gameplay of this room because I've never played another game that was completely dark. The puzzles were definitely challenging in this room in a way that I'm not used to and I loved it!

Atmosphere

60% of this room takes place in complete darkness. The part of the room that doesn't take place in complete darkness is very small but still well designed and immersive. The part of the room that is in darkness is still immersive but obviously not visually impressive.

Customer service

All of the employees at this location were super welcoming and helpful!

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

I have heard of other dark games out there but this is the first one that I've played and it was a very new experience for me!

Story

The storyline was not super unique but it was effective in driving the action forward in the room.

Difficulty

Hard

The part of this room that takes part in the light is not super challenging but the part of this room that takes place in the dark is very difficult. The puzzles themselves are doable but it definitely engages a different part of the brain than usual. Nudges from the game master in this room feel pretty necessary because it is very easy to miss small details when you can't see anything.

Game tech

Mechanical

There's isn't a ton of tech in this room but there also aren't a lot of physical locks. Most of the puzzles in this room are very kinesthetic (for obvious reasons).

Ideal number of players

3

The space is very small. There were three of us in the group and that felt like a good amount. It would be feasible to do this room with 2-4 people in my opinion.

Scary

Spooky

This game is definitely a spooky theme but there aren't any jump scares that I can remember and there are no live actors within the game. The Escape Ventures definitely has scarier rooms and if you're fine in "Neighborhood Watcher" or "Cornstalkers" then you will be fine in this.

Minimum age

12

This room has a spooky theme but no inappropriate content.

Was anything broken?

No

Live actors

No

Physically active

Crawling is required for all team members. Many of the puzzles require touch but not any strenuous activity.

Accessibility

I would not recommend this game for people with mobility restrictions. Crawling is required and it would be a safety hazard to navigate this room in the dark with mobility restrictions. I don't recall any puzzles that required color or hearing.

This is a mostly completely pitch-black room. I knew that coming in, and have verified that these aren’t for me. I love all the other rooms at this company for their elaborate sets, great puzzles, and thematic synergies. This room relies on the darkness to make otherwise easy puzzles really difficult. There is a way to ask for a black light on, but that’s against the spirit of the room. You’d also realize it’s just a hodge piece of tasks set in a void that don’t make sense for the ghoulish story. I just don’t see the thematic integration here. Yes it’s dark, but I wish the room had more of an identity as a hotel room. I’ll definitely give them credit that the puzzles make good use of requiring touch and awareness of surroundings despite no vision. And those looking for that kind of dark experience will probably find a good example of it here. I guess I just literally didn’t see the appeal.
