104 escape rooms
6.1/10 We really wanted to enjoy A Pirate’s Curse a lot more than we did. It’s not because we just missed escaping by a couple seconds, it’s more because of the reasons why we didn’t escape. It still is a good room that we enjoyed, but there are a number of things that brought our overall rating down. Escapology did a good job of immersing us in a very cool and eerie pirate ship setting. The props, decor, and background music all fit the theme super well. It’s the puzzle design and functionality of the puzzles that ruined our experience here. There was one puzzle in the first room that we had correct, but apparently did not push the lever hard enough so we spent 5-10 minutes trying to put in different codes thinking we had the wrong code initially. There were a series of puzzles that required leaps of logic, so either you get lucky by picking the correct word that rhymes with the rest of the riddle, or you get stuck. After them finally telling us the answer, we came to find out the lock itself was jammed. It took a while to unjam it for it to finally open, but our game master did say they are ordering a new one so hopefully this is fixed soon. Lastly, we still don’t understand how one of the final puzzles in the room worked, even after asking for multiple hints and having the game master explain it to us at the end. We really did want to love this room, but these “hiccups” really hindered our experience and prevented this room from being a high thumbs up or even a low heart! P.S.- Be prepared to watch a very long intro video!
