Really loved this room. A strong mix of puzzles using locks and tech, a great story thread throughout, and tons of unlocks and expansions. Communication HEAVY and puzzle-dense, but absolutely worth it.
There’s a LOT of things to do, and communication is key. Lots of different clues / inputs / mechanisms, and a LOT of space unlocks. The 2-floor nature provides some interesting communication tactics, especially with a lot of code transmitting for time.
Falls into the trap that 13th Hour typically has with 1) too much thrown at you that you cannot solve yet and 2) multiple places to put the same code, but does alleviate through some signposting.
The set just kept opening up, with really unique and interesting set pieces, props, and interactions. Everything felt really lived in and appropriate to have.
However, the straight printer paper on the wall at points is a little disorienting - like weather it a little bit…
13th Hour staff is always awesome, hands down. Sweetest and most honest people.
Particularly interesting or different
Yes
I hadn’t ever played a game w/ two floors before, so that was very interesting. In addition, the general theme and tech, even if simple, really lifted the game up with some magical moments.
The story flowed perfectly throughout, with some really lovely and touching scenes and everything flowing nicely. You felt like you were actively pushing the story forward throughour.
LOTS to do, across multiple floors and rooms. Communication needs to be top-notch throughout. Very interesting multi-step puzzles.
Potential info overload.
Balances the line between locks that make sense and tech interactions that work. A great blend of the two which all felt purposeful.
Used blacklight in a way I didn’t immediately groan at. Massive plus.
You need people. Just period. You will not get out with 4- people. The more the merrier with this game, especially with the floor plan.
Some light elements of horror, but more just general spooky vibes.
Probably for the older kids due to the puzzle density and needing to really contribute alone to win.
Did not do with live actors due to it not being the season, but apparently highly recommended.
Physically active
Somewhat
You WILL need to constantly go between two floors via a staircase unless you want to be locked out of half the game. One person will need to be okay with dragging themselves through a space (not saying much more intentionally).
Accessibility
Major thing - you NEED to be able to go up and down stairs consistently to play this game. Not ADA / wheelchair accessible.
Color differentiation needed for puzzles. Sound needed for one puzzle, along with most puzzles requiring communication without being able to see each other. Lots of reading. At least one non-claustrophobic, fully able-bodied player needed to complete endgame.
Massive warehouse, cannot miss the entrance.
Parking lot at warehouse.
