But one night, many moons ago, the Captain and his crew landed themselves in troubled water embarking on a quest where few others dare go, aboard an abandoned ship laden with treasure, known as ‘The Soul Catcher’. You only have one hour to break the curse before the sun sets beyond the horizon or you will be left prisoner aboard The Soul Catcher for eternity—and with no escape! One of the last puzzles was broken and they weren’t monitoring the room at all so we ran out of time because they wouldn’t come in to fix the puzzle.

Gameplay

One puzzle broke and they didn’t pay attention to us asking to have it fixed for 15 minutes and caused us to run out of time.

Atmosphere

Aesthetically pleasing room.

Customer service

They did not monitor the cameras or room at all while we were playing. We spent 15 minutes telling them one of the last puzzles was broken and ran out of time. Game master walked in and said “oh so close guys” and didn’t realize we were yelling at the monitors the puzzle was broken the whole time.

So this was a surprisingly good pirate game. It started out a little small, in the hole of a ship, but as the game progressed, and you got into more parts of the ship, the game really took off. Some parts linear, some parts non-linear, the flow was just OK. I was impressed at some of the puzzles, a couple that were pretty unique. If anything, I will call this game a sleeper. Escapology has a number of rooms to offer and if you have done a lot of rooms, you might be tempted to put the pirate one at the bottom, or skip it. I would say, come for Scooby Doo, but if time permits, put this one on your list.

Our first Escapology room. Really well designed, great decor and gameplay. Good story line.

A couple handles on the wheel were broken off but the one needed was labeled with a sticker, so it did not affect game play. The drawer with the key didn't pop so didn't find it.

Malfunctioning puzzles, logic leaps and a GM who didn’t closely monitor our progress in order to properly guide us whenever hints were requested. Scenic decor was nice, otherwise, wouldn’t recommend.
