As much as I’m a fan of the movie and appreciate the tributes to it, unfortunately my run through of the game was riddled with malfunctions and the staff had to come in repeatedly to spring off the puzzles. I’d be confused over a puzzle that seemed correct only for nothing to happen and a staff to enter. Also, although I appreciate the transitions in this game, the puzzles were pretty few compared to what they could have made this game to be. I agree with another reviewer, when the game was over I remember thinking…”this is it?” I’ve heard from the staff that they’re about to scrap the room, and honestly they should. It’s riddled with faults and it can be frustrating. The only saving value for this game for me was that I was a big fan of the movie. A sharp fall from quality compared to rooms like Mystical manor, slaughter landing etc.

I thought this game was fun! It flowed pretty well and there were some challenging puzzles involved. Other players in the reviews mentioned broken puzzles, but the staff must have fixed them because all of our puzzles were functional. It’s true that there is no ceiling for the rooms but it didn’t bother us because there wasn’t much else going on in the venue at the time. Our only complaint was the volume of the background creepy sound effects being too loud. Otherwise the game master very nice and helpful and we enjoyed the puzzles

This was one of those rooms where we got out and then we were like "wait, that was it?" - and honestly I kind of hate that. It makes the whole experience very unsatisfying, because it's so much better once you can work through the puzzles and then KNOW when you get to the penultimate one - and that you are almost out. Otherwise, as Stephie noted - we normally think that the sketchier the place (i.e a warehouse in an industrial park -- bonus points for the spooky animatronics and dilapidated Scooby van parked outside) the better the rooms will be. I think we have this philosophy because of Thirteenth Hour, which I am sure anyone who is doing rooms here has heard of or has frequented. This place gives a similar vibe but not as well on the execution. It does bother me a bit when there are no ceilings on the rooms, but some escape room places make that work with their creepy music, etc or the way they time game play that the rooms aren't right next to eachother at one time. This one, had really loud music but we could still hear another group screaming all sorts of things which definitely takes away from the ambiance and also makes it kind of hard to think. I genuinely enjoyed the theme of this room, and think it has potential to be great but unfortunately a lot of the puzzles were broken, and extremely worn down. Another pet peeve of mine is when you can see other people's puzzle attempts on a puzzle (like a list that has light lines on it that someone drew on) and think it shouldn't be too hard to replace those items when they get to that point. We weren't sure if we were going to ever come back here after this experience.

Gameplay

The gameplay and story line was fine, it did flow.

Atmosphere

Everything was wore down and not in the fun artsy way of adding to the experience, but in the wore down way in which the puzzles were not all functional.

Customer service

The gamemaster was soooooo nice, but unfortunately was not very attentive. We asked for a hint like 6 times before she responded, and then she gave us a hint for a puzzle we already solved. Granted there was a rowdy group in another room and she was managing them as well, but it sucks that we also paid to be there and didn't get to have a great experience .

Was anything broken?

Yes

One thing I hated was that things were not only broken, but the gamemaster is supposed to trigger something on their end to unlock things after you successfully complete a puzzle, and because she wasn't paying attention we wasted an incredible amount of time playing around with things and trying alternative solutions when we actually had it right the first time.

Not my favorite room - was very meh. Things were super worn down and the building itself that Brighton is in is not my favorite. I usually have the philosophy that the sketchier the building the better the escape rooms will be, but honestly this place wrecked that philosophy. All that being said, it was like ~fine~ and we went back a few months later to do a different room and that one was a bit better. Needs to be updated badly.

Gameplay

Fine - very worn down and not super special.

Atmosphere

Not great.

Customer service

Good - it was tough to find but the GM was helpful.

Story

Eh it was ok. The hotel thing is overdone.

**If you get there early and have to wait for the previous party to finish the game, WAIT IN THE CAR!! DO NOT WAIT IN THE HALLWAY because you would hear all the clues and spoil the fun ** It was a fun room with spooky atmosphere. There was no blood nor gory scenes though. The puzzles were not difficult. The “room” has an open ceiling so sound from outside of the room could easily be heard. Luckily we were the only party in the warehouse so we were not affected by background noises. Not sure how our experience would be if we went during the busy Halloween season. Some important props were not well maintained and would interfered with the flow of the game.

Although I enjoyed the puzzles and the structure itself, this escape room uses a lot of audio clues. This normally wouldn’t be an issue, but when I was there the sound bleed from Brighton Asylum was extremely loud, making it very hard to figure certain things out. I had fun, but there were many external frustrations that really affected my enjoyment here. I don’t know if the escape room is open all year round though, so maybe this is less a concern when it’s not October

Room 1408 is just that, set in a hotel room. The design was creatively creepy that fit the theme perfectly. So if you’re looking for something a little spooky this is perfect. Beware of a handful of red herrings so I wouldn’t spend too much time on a task if it isn’t going anywhere. Also an audio puzzle or two that would make it difficult for the hearing impaired. But overall a great room!
