To prove your worth to the mafia family, you must break into the boss's office and remove incriminating evidence before the police raid the office. But the office is secured with a security system that requires cunning and cleverness to disarm. There is nothing groundbreaking about the background story of the mafia family, but the construction of the room to bring the story to life is very well executed. After an atmospheric intro through the speakers, the time begins. Unlike most other rooms, there is no clock in the room to keep track of time. We were also told that time could be extended if we were close to solving everything but were missing a few puzzles, so the classic 60-minute time pressure is not as dominant at AMaze. There are plenty of puzzles to tackle right from the start, and the room is not built in a linear way. This also means that you can easily have a group of four without anyone feeling redundant. We were challenged on how thoroughly we needed to search the room to find all the hints, and it was surprising how much could be hidden right in front of our eyes. This is only possible because the finishing touches were exquisite, and the designers were extremely detail-oriented. There was good variation in the puzzles, so different types of intelligence, dexterity, and memory were tested. It is always a pleasure to have a game master who is engaged and understands when you need a hint or just a sign that you are on the right track. We were entertained from start to finish.
