I had high hopes for this and was baffled by the choices. There was a cool scare early on involving a half person and another involving the hall of presidents, but then it devolved into the torture chamber segment of Tussauds in a way that probably wouldn't make sense to anyone who didn't know that wax museums often have these sections. There was so much they could have done with melted celebrity figures and masks and etc that they seemed to suggest would be the case from the outside patter, and I couldn't comprehend the lack of these things on the inside.

Turning people into wax figurines is a pretty unique and creepy idea for a maze. I enjoyed it!

Good
At $35, this is a complete ripoff. Definitely carpool if you can.

Prepare to be spooked. The Knott’s actors are waiting around every turn and know how to pop out at just the right moment to make you jump. The set design is highly detailed and designed for terror at Knott’s Scary Farm. A few cons: the mazes are all very loud with sound effects and music that do little to add to the ambience of fear but do make you want to get out quicker. There is high amount of gore in most of the mazes. We generally prefer haunts that rely on spine-chilling creepiness rather than ritual slaughter. But to each their own. Wax Works has a consistent storyline of gore so if that’s what you’re in for, go for it.

This house was absolutely vile! The body horror was top-notch. Great atmosphere and great costumes! This one is a must see!

I always loved the exterior of this one a bit more than the inside. Not the best at the park, but decent.

The story was solid, but the excellent body horror was easily the star of the show. The horrific fleshy abominations look like something straight out of a Junji Ito panel. The actors' role is much more minor than most other haunts, but them going about some of their creepy tasks is a lot scarier than just jumpscaring you.

All the effects were not working. There was not enough fog or any water effects so this was a very boring walk through and definitely didn’t feel immersed

Admittedly, I wasn't a fan of Wax Works when it first debuted in 2019, but over the years, it has grown on me. Its facade remains one of the best, with a devilish animatronic and fire effect. Rooms vary in quality; for example, the Hollywood room lacks detail and is tiny, but the bee room employs great special effects and sound design. Scare actors sporadically appear, leaving the set pieces to do much of the heavy lifting. There are small details that add touches to the story, such as a partially melted wax figure exposing human skeleton underneath. While the climax is okay with the reveal of the terrifying creation, the villain of the story never makes an appearance. Overall, Wax Works is a mixed bag that is close to greatness but doesn't quite reach it.
